I would suggest doing something to unify the parts of the bolter. It looks like four disparate pieces that I only identify as a gun because I know the 40K universe.

Yet if the bolter came this way straight from the techmarines, I don't thing the Termie's enemies are really going to be critiquing the paint scheme or the weapon's non-cohesive look. Well, perhaps if some Eldar Harlequin interior decorators had the Terminator in their sights from afar...hehe.
As I cannot, and they would just end up looking like something I'd had in my mouth for a while, I will not paint them (though, I may attempt some spray-type job at some point, if I'm feeling brave and/or stupid).
OK, I primed with white auto primer. I normally use black when painting multiple figs, but red goes over much nicer on white.
On this guy I started with blood red, washed with chestnut ink, highlighted with blazing orange, and blazing orange/bald moon yellow.
The ink didn't shade enough, so I painted in terracotta ( i think) into the shaded areas. I did some glazes with chestnut ink and red ink. I don't usually paint stage to stage, I'll shade and highlight whenever I think it's needed; it's hard to remember exactly how I did it
I am happy with this guy, but he is a bit orange . I decided to do the rest with tones that are a deeper. If you look at the red on the bolt gun, thats what I'm going for with the rest of the crew.

This, exactly.
I still have unpainted minis from back in the early days of Warhammer ~ and I stuck with FRP instead of exploring anything that required them after seeing the results of my first few sad attempts...
