I haven't finished pimping my copy yet. I need to buy some poker chips this afternoon to replace the Runebound money. We use the variant rules with an auction mechanic to resolve how many genestealers are on a blip when it is revealed and whether a bolter hits, misses or jams. The game plays so much better this way as it removes the imbalance in the game that results from the randomness of dice rolling.

I have had to put a small dot on my marines to mark facing, but this has stopped the stupid arguments we have had with those overly detailed miniatures that came with the game that were causing us so many problems during gameplay.

Great idea!

We actually went one step further and exchanged those delaminating space corridor tiles with Carcassonne tiles:

and we added the additional rule that you build the level AS you play it!

In this particular picture you can see the Genestealers overwhelming the poor marines (in this case the Ultramarines as denoted by the black color). Luckily, the Marine player has just drawn the Cathedral tile which will make his weapons three times more powerful, of course IF he manages to finish the entire Cit.. I mean Control Room.

I always thought Space Hulk needed a Worker Placement mechanic.

Player 1: "OK, I'm putting my marine on the 'Kill Alien' card."
Player 2: "I'm putting mine on the 'Enlarge Gun' card!"
Player 3: "Um.... I'll take 'Have baby', I guess."

This game would look so much better with some googly-eyed FIMO space marines!

I will use imperial guard and orks instead. Those I have plenty.

In the meantime just a little test for fun. Epic 40K space marines. 6 mm scale.

- Brother Captain, I see a European 1 cent coin flanking us!
- Give him a taste of our flamer! That will melt him.

I'm pretty sure the blips are next to the stealers (blue meeples), not the marines (red meeples).

Actually, the inverse combination strikes me as more intriguing. Use spacemarines and genestealers instead of the normal, boring meeples. Some guy placing farms where you don't want them? Have your Space Wolves burn down the grain, while your Blood Angels slaughter his farmers.

Well, mechanics make games, not detailed miniatures. So, if you wouldn't enjoy S. Hulk played this way, you likely need to re-assess your hobby.

I was joking! I don't use the figs that came with 3rdED either. They look OK but are so not functional. As with many old old GW figs these tip over too easy. Now I can speak for Anjohl, but I don't need to re-assess my hobby, it works just fine for me.
