I'm really conflicted about this expansion.. Some of the cards look very interesting to me; such as Ambassador, Bazaar, Smuggler, Cutpurse and Pearl Diver.

On the other hand, some of the cards seem quite overpowered; such as native village, pirate ship, light house and treasure map.

As a matter of fact, I'm not sure I'm a fan of any of the duration cards..

Many of the duration cards are excellent and well balanced. Caravan and Fishing Village are fine without being over-strong. Lighthouse is extremely strong, and Merchant Ship and Wharf are very good as well.

Treasure Map is ludicrously overpowered though. Pirate Ship needs quite a bit of effort to get working, but can be very good if you do; it's not overpowered.

Would it balance out Lighthouse, if you discarded it once it is used to counter an attack (meaning that this would mean you had to choose between the +1

or countering the attack)?

Good suggestion. Personally I don't think Lighthouse is overpowered, but if your group does, then that sounds like an excellent house rule. (It'd also mean it can't defend against multiple attacks in a single round.)

Ended up getting the expansion.
I loathe treasure map!
The duration cards are beginning to grow on me.

And Warehouse, Cutpurse, Island are some of my favorite cards in the game.
