Oops - guess my caption was too long. Anyway, I was just saying that the "blips" (white wooden blocks) are added to the motion tracker until a certain number is accrued, at which time the alien attacks will start, as in the regular game. Also note the red barrels. These squares serve as obstructions, as in the regular game, but can also be shot at, a hit resulting in the barrels exploding and wiping out aliens in adjacent squares. Watch out, though, each barrel square that explodes will send the turn counter down one extra square, simulating the speed-up of the reactor meltdown. Intense!
I played this game when I was 10 or so, during a time I was obsessed with the movie "Aliens" (still haven't grown out of that). At that time, I bought the board game thinking this would just be another movie tie-in rip-off where you roll a die and move to a square that says "An alien attacked you! Lose your turn!". You know, an aliens version of "Life."
How delighted and fascinated I was to find such an amazing and intense game. Akin to playing a video game, only with cool little components and real images from the movie. Hours and hours spent playing with the movie soundtrack on in the background.
Anyway, now I am introducing my 6-year-old to the game, and so I decided that rather than buy the game on e-bay (expensive!), I would create my own components (and add some new features while I'm at it!).
