I was just thinking to myself the other day. Why hasn't there been a picture of a cat in the hot list for awhile.
They have absolutely nothing to do with games, playing games or people playing games but so many users on BGG have a wacky attachment to those creatures.
Thanks for the picture of some painted blocks and a cats head. Now I can go to bed and stop worrying that something horrible has gone wrong.
Now cue all the cat lovers to begin their defensive gripes.

You must not have any cats. The photo is what things look like before sudden destruction comes....
This inspires me to take some cat pictures with my games!
I'm always amazed at comments of this type. While I like animals in general, and prefer dogs to cats, I don't understand why someone would click on a pic that is evidently containing a cat, only to spend time writing a few lines on how fed up s/he is about the fact that there are pics of cats in this site.
I mean, what's the point, really? I don't go to reviews of games I'm not interested in just to post that I don't like the game, or go to the supermarket cheese stand to make my point on how much I dislike Cheddar, and the fact that there are too many Cheddars in the stand.

I was just thinking to myself the other day that there has not been a picture of a cat in the hotlist where some jerk has to criticize the post. Geez, get a life. Let the post be. We do not need your snide comments on how there is yet again another picture of a cat. Let the post have a life of it's own. Obviously, people enjoy it, and thus have thumbed it as such. I personally found the picture funny and I'm sure so did everyone else who thumbed it.
Also, let me add that cats have been domesticated for enough thousands of years for our attachment to no longer be described as "wacky". That particular descriptor was only apt during the first thousand years of domestication.
As Clay said, the cat is practicing his well-honed technique of not looking at the space he wants to take, "Please ignore the Provost. Please ignore the Provost.PLEASE, ignore the Provost!"

You know, you're right! What this site DOES need is more pictures of dice towers, setup games, and shots over peoples backs as they play games. I can't get enough of those!

That's just it.
BGG is what people have made it, what they contribute. There is nothing unusual about this picture from what other people have posted. There are a ton of other pics on cats, many others on dogs, others yet recently on spheres of cards, tons of kids, others of women. Point is, what do any of these pictures really have to do with playing games? Actually a lot. It shows how each person perceives a game and how they play it, and who they play games with. To me, the most boring shots are of people just playing a game. At least if this is going to be done, then get enough detail in the shot so that viewers can ascertain what is being done, who is losing, what particular strategy is being used, etc. If there is nothing "special" about a particular game play, then why take a picture of it? The picture above, tells me that this guy wants a gaming partner, likes cats, likes Caylus, likes the movie Easy Rider, and so much more just by looking at the pic. Furthermore, he tells us all this in a humorous way. So, thanks for the smile.
The point I would like people to understand, is that pictures even slightly relevant to games, even to the ninth degree, are infact interesting to many viewers here on BGG. As evidenced by the sheer number of thumbs this picture has already received. What would you rather see a picture of? In your case, it appears to not be a cat. Then reflect this with not thumbing the picture. If you desire, also reflect this with a statement, much as you already did, but without being offensive or discourteous to others. Your remarks are not outlandishly rude, but they come close. Like anyone, you have the right to express your opinion, but done so with more tact would be appreciated by all, instead of sarcastic remarks of how you will sleep better that night.
Outstanding photo. He actually looks like he waiting for you to set up the game to play. As my avatar tries to show, my favorite cat would be alot more irritated.
I don't like pics of cats in game boxes but I leave them alone. I don't really like cats in general but I get why lots of people do. But, I find this picture hilarious.
The lone cat (dare I say it? Yes, I do)...purrfectly... illustrates "need people", and then the fact that it's starting straight into the lens kind of means, "this means you". Perfect.
On the other hand, "i can has cheeseburger" is where I go for pictures of cats. Much more, what in here is caylus, really? If we had a section of the 'geek which was "pictures of cats" or a subheading next to "people" and it was "cats", I'd be down...
Thanks to everyone for the comments, thumbs and tips! As far as the comments go, everybody has an opinion whichever that is and there's no point in arguing. But also anyone who has a cat knows that when you play boardgames with one around, most often it's a photo opportunity!
About the background now, I didn't think anyone would notice, it's a numbered poster of Easy Rider (great film! ) and a calendar with italian ads from the 50's!
That cat is plotting his next move...and it involves wanton scattering and reckless pursuit of many small defenceless blocks. He's looking a little to the side of the block pile so as not to upset it.

To be fair, I'd much rather look at a cute cat than some generously proportioned gamer balanced on his beerbelly and looking smug about his 9 million miniatures or LED-lit gaming table.
And about cats having nothing to do with people playing games... Seriously? It seems you've never encountered a force majeure in the form of a cat who decides that your precious board is the best place to plonk down his furry butt.
Cats have just as much to do with people and games as babies, boobs and other things that are probably OK in your list.
personally i love dogs, but dogs tends to eat board games, and the drool stains. however, i also acknowledge cats provide a great deal of goofy highjinks, especially in groups. this one is cute.i am amazed at the amount of raging debate and passion this little feline has sparked in my fellow posters

Cat n' games reminds me of when our cat jumped up onto the table and ran STRAIGHT OVER our axis & allies board, when we were about 1.5 hours into it! Everyones hearts stopped, but strangely enough not a single piece was touched :O
Don't make me do it, Jim. Tell me what Tony Clifton's avatar is or Case Blue gets it!
The cat looks at his human thinking, "I own you. You own the game. By extrapolation, I own the game. Card pile is mine!" Picture taken two seconds before cat jumps on the table and sends cards and bits flying. Yeah, I own a cat, too.
Cats rule. This furry friend looks like he's ready to start playing. He's probably got more personality than some of the whingers complaining about too many cats pics.
Great Pic! I love cats! Be careful of Cat philosophy! " If it moves grab it, and if it does not move grab it!"
You have obviously experienced the joy of playing boardgames with/near cats many times. They're always interested in anything that catches the attention of their human servants.

332?!?! for filling a boardgame with allergens ?!?
Obviously the cats are in the next room playing boardgames. Poker wasn't challenging enough for them .
The cats complained too much about luck in poker. Plus, they're low on cash as they spend it all on lattes and organic tuna. Who knew . . . cats are hippy eurosnoots.
For weeks, Fluffy had wandered the streets of Athens looking for a worthy opponent. One by one they fell to his cunning strategies and deft play - he was the euro-master and everyone knew it. Then one night he happened upon Giannis and he instantly knew that this was the competitor he had been searching for. Yes, the game must be Caylus and this would be his defining moment. Prepare for battle.

Cats may not have anything to do with games, but they really want to have something to do with them. As soon as I open a game box and start setting up, one of my two cats creeps up and assumes the stance shown in the OPs pic. They just want to get their furry mitts on some bits! I generally object to them whacking pieces around the board, so they give up and attempt to squish themselves into the empty box lid. One of them weighs around 14.5 pounds, and her posterior can put quite a strain on a box, so she usually needs to be physically removed from the situation. Needless to say, I find cat/game pics pretty amusing. Sorry they piss you off so much, but hey, we can't please everyone...perhaps you should get a cat. I hear they can help with stress...
I made it to this Caylus cat party a year later, but glad to see the cat is still patiently waiting. I was compelled to buy the microbadge in support of cat pictures on BGG. I have an orange cat with one eye (running with scissors, perhaps?), and he would like to play some games now and then also. He too waits patiently.
