This Space Marine is the first one I ever touched with a brush. I never expected it to be that much fun
Took me a few weeks to paint it... Although I never worked longer than 1 or 2 hours a day.
The chrome cross on his left shoulder and the lettering were pretty challenging but I'm pleased with the result. Never should have used metallic paint on the shield though... Well, we're here to learn, aren't we?

Ow, and I changed his name... It's no longer Gideon now. I couldn't resist writing my own nickname on his chest whistle

Can you please tell me how you make the letters and text on purity seals and shield? I always have problems with it.

Be careful with those affirmations, because I´ve been painting for years, and when I´ve read that this was your first... I almost cry...cry

See you

Well, I cheated... modest
I can't write that good in paint myself so I used a little trick: I printed the letters on a thin sheet of paper. Just used Powerpoint to do the magic. I gave the lettering a curve and printed it in several fonts and dimensions till I got it right. Cut it out making sure the paper had the exact same shape as the purity seals (took me ages and lots of failed attempts to do that). I attached it by using a lot of varnish, sticked the little piece of paper on it and again applied a lot of varnish on top of it. When the paper is thin enough it will become a bit transparent so it will get the same colour as the painted purity seal underneath. After drying the paper will no longer feel and look like paper and you can add paint on it as if it were plastic or metal. The lettering on the shield is a bit too bright (I see now) but that can be fixed by adding an extra layer of varnish mixed with some brown paint.
