It figures. You finally leave the horrors of Arkham to enjoy a nice getaway at your cabin in the woods only to find some giant tentacle monster living in the chimney. Don't you hate it when that happens?

My second attempt at a dice tower (or "dice chimney" in this case) for Arkham made from LEGO.

The first attempt:

very nice indeed. this one's got a lot more 'narrative' than your previous dice tower. though if i were going to make a criticism, it would be that it looks maybe a little too cluttered with detail. i'd be worried about knocking bits off it when i try and roll dice or lean over it to pick up a card. however, that is a very minor criticism, i'd love to have a piece like this for myself.

out of curiosity, do you design the pieces on LEGO designer and then purchase bricks accordingly? or do you pay to get them to send you the set? or do you simply have a massive collection already?

The structure holds together quite well against the dice actually. The wall and tentacles look a little flimsy by design, but if you roll small dice (Warhammer dice are what I use) they don't budge at all. Actually the only problem with this one is you can drop a die in such a way that it bounces out of the well at the bottom since the wall is lower than the original, but that's unusual.

I actually do have a massive collection and also have recent access to a LEGO store that is only about a mile away (the store having a pick-a-brick wall), so pieces are not usually a problem though I am now running very low on tiles, which will make the future towers an interesting challenge.

They are from this set: http://bricks.argz.com/ins/4796-1/1

Not in production anymore, but there are some new Atlantis sets that have a new type of big tentacles that are on sale now: http://shop.lego.com/ByTheme/Product.aspx?p=8061&cn=616

I'm suprised some kind of Geek Wormhole didn't spontaneously open to Legooth as soon as you finished this.

Wormhole to Legooth sounds like a good subject for the next one.

It's difficult to make plans for them given the tentacle pieces. My bet is that LDD doesn't have those in it. I might try to make something like either of the two towers in the Lego Digital Designer at some point, but it would likely be simpler so that it could be affordable and easily reproduced. Also, I'm not sure if it creates instructions that you can download separate from actually purchasing the sets. Anyone know of another alternative to generating Lego plans that isn't especially difficult?

Just amazing! Do you have an pics of the build in progress? It would be neat to see how you did the ramps inside.

Keep up the great work!

Yeah, I'm not sure if LDD has those either. But plans for a "generic" tower would be most welcome!
