I really like the art on this one. Very simple and evocative, and without too many symbols covering it up.

I like this card in general for being simple, yet filling in a niche that hasn't been covered in quite this way until now.

Also, what do you mine from a black hole? Pure cash, apparently.

My interpretation was that you're mining "information", since cards can represent the locations of worlds you can settle or details of developments you can research. That's something I love about this game; there's so much flavour you can usually come up with multiple possible explanations of the mechanics.

Black Holes emit X-rays, which is how astronomers find them. Hypothetically, because we know they emit x-rays, they could also emit a variety of useful rays/particles/stuff science hasn't discovered.

This card is positively awesome - extra cash flow with no need to trade, and hand size increase; also, one prestige point.

Of course, unless you draw it early, its utility decreases.

Looks like a candidate for Doomed World starters. Seems expensive otherwise.

It looks to me like the element of surprise will be key. I've got no problem with dropping this right after my opponent Develops diversified economy and calls produce.

My opponent brought this out in a game last Saturday and I must say, I was dubious at first, given it's cost. The card bonus was pretty damn special though, and with the Terraforming Engineers you could in theory swap this in after using up a useless grey

Yep, I'm already a huge fan of dropping Imperium Lords in similar situations, which is why this card also caught my attention.

You could also use the black hole as part of a mining process - the gravity field might be an efficient way to extract the substance you're mining from the rocks you dug up, if the substance and the rocks it's buried in have different densities.

Errr...I don't think that's true. The black hole pulls harder on the heavier stuff, but it accelerates at exactly the same rate because its also harder to move. But I'm just a Newtownian physicist, and we're not valid anymore partially because of black holes poking holes in what we thought we knew.

Couple of days ago I used Terraforming Engineers to swap Separatist Colony for Black Hole Miners on the first turn. On top of easy Prestige lead, Damaged Alien Factory happened to call Produce. Nice! In the next game, I swapped Old Earth for Black Hole Miners (not first turn, though).

Earlier today, I saw a friend of mine to empty his hand to play Black Hole Miners for 12-card Produce draw. Next turn he placed a 6-dev and 9-cost Alien Departure Point ...

We have also seen Doomed World end up in Black Hole couple of times which is rather funny theme-wise. Once they built a Colony Ship to do so.
