So, after an exciting game, which we lost, my 9 year old daughter was going through the cards and asked about the blanks.

I told her they for creating your own roles if you wanted to. She says, "I'm going to make up a role!" I said, "Ok, well think about what you want to do, then we'll figure out how it will work." I was thinking we'd balance it out and figure out what gaps it would cover.

I was milling around in the kitchen making a drink and turned around to see her proudly displaying her new creation.. I gave her plenty of praise for taking the initiative and living large!

I told her that in any game someone should always be the medic, and someone should be the Jake...

Way to involve your daughter!

Did she clarify the power of the mighty Jake? Is his power a one-time use, and can he re-place a research station if they are all already on the board?

Just curious.

Jake is awesome. I am imagining an epic Pandemic movie with a guy named Jake who is multilingual and has scientist friends all over the place that pop out of the woodwork when needed...

Yeah, I asked her about that. I said, "So does this use an action? or spend a card? or does he have to be in the city or what?" She reached for the stars with her answer and said, "No, he can just put a research station wherever he wants without using an action or a card..."

She does love this game, she's really into the co-op thing. I think its because it's a bonding experience for her, kinda like "me and dad against the world."

Our Wii got hit by lightning about 6 months ago. I haven't had it fixed because "we don't have the money right now", but new board games are showing up in our closet... hehe, one day she'll figure it out. I hope she appreciates it when she does.

I think you could have a medic and a Jake and take on TWO bio-terrorists (from the On the Brink expansion).

I'm guessing the hair is obscuring the eyes, kind of the style my grandson favors.

Nice work! That's a creative kid you've got there!

I immediately assumed we were gazing upon Jake in profile. Much like the jacks in a standard deck of cards . . .

Way to go, board-gaming daughter! I hope I get one of those some day.

Raising your kids into boardgamers is the Prime Directive of any self-respecting gamer parent. Good job!

A decade or two from now, after you've walked your daughter down the wedding aisle, you'll find this card while cleaning the basement and have quite an emotional moment. Enjoy your baby girl while you have her!

Then you get to repeat the whole process with the grandkids!

His power seems kind of weak. I mean, I don't think I've ever seen a game where a "tree" is available to discard. Did she make extra cards to represent the trees as well? javascript://

You are correct. Jake is a man of action, we couldn't get him to stand still long enough for a portrait. The best we could get was a profile shot as he dashed off to - yet another - crisis.

I know a Jake and I can't imagine him being of any use in my everyday life, much less in the face of a cataclysmic outbreak of disease.

Admit it!
You don't have a daughter and you made up that card yourself to never lose against your bio-terrorist buddies again.
