Looking for a copy of Key Town! Got a copy for trade?
I quite like the game itself...
...but sadly I think all these boards are ugly. Too much going on in this new one. The color palette captures some essence of the era, and the picture frames are a nice concept, but the whole thing feels cut and pasted together as much as the original board does.
Maybe the board should have been designed to represent an old dashboard? Or a automobile factory? Even a city street with car lots? I dunno, maybe.
A bunch of squares placed side by side doesn't make for an interesting game board.
I prefer the look of the new board for aesthetics but I think it is way to busy. Therefore, I will keep my original copy and not get the deluxe because I think it will be confusing for a lot of people.
Like water spilled on the ground, which cannot be recovered, so we must die. But God does not take away life; instead, he devises ways so that a banished person may not remain estranged from him. 2 Sam 14:14
Okay, I'll frame the new one and hang it on the wall (it's prettier). Then I'll use Frank's version to actually play on (it's more playable).
I think the new board is fantastic! The shape and color scheme make it much easier to quickly scan the board, the turn sequence boxes are more distinctive, and the references to period detail on places like the selection order spots are a great thematic touch. Nice work!
Of the three, I prefer Frank's. It's cleaner and more readable. The color scheme on the deluxe board feels wrong. The Model T black was perfect for the economy cars. That silver or chrome is confusing.
I have been dying to play Automobile, but have never had the chance. This new board -- at least from an asthetic standpoint -- is amazing! I need a poster of this to hang on my gameroom wall. I can't wait to get my hands on a copy of this reprint.

There is grandeur in this view of life, whilst this planet has gone cycling on according to the fixed law of gravity, from so simple a beginning endless forms most beautiful and most wonderful have been, and are being, evolved.
My problem with the board is there is no little "help text" under the character's name to tell the players what the character does. I can just hear it now, endless rounds of "What does Sloan do again?" during the character selection phase.

I prefer the original, too much glitz and not enough practicality in the more recent design. I imagine that's the main reason for the huge delay in seeing the new edition come out. Regardless of the edition, though, the distributors area is still confusing. Best to have an area of the board where you can fit a card over the distributor spots that are unavailable on turns one and two.
I guess I'm the only one bothered by the consistent ray of light that runs from the top left to the bottom right on just about every item. I think it contributes to the business of the board. Would also like quick summary as Marshall pointed out of the special power of each car guy.

The change in the board reminds me of the difference between Caylus and the Caylus deluxe edition, we always play with the original.
Yeah. The more I look at this board, the more I think it looks nice enough on it's own, but I think it's going to become too busy and difficult to read once it starts filling up with components (factories, produced cars, distributors, etc...). The original board stays pretty clean and readable, even when in play.
