Although, I don't think the picture fits the card: a Spitzel (unless my German fails me here) is an informant, whereas the picture (from Das Leben der Anderen) is of a Stasi agent listening in to a bugged flat.

Yes, but it's a picture from the movie "Das Leben der Anderen" (The Lives of Others) and the Stasi agent assigned to the case... well, watch the movie. It's brilliant.

Er, that's what I said. The question is whether a Stasi agent is a Spitzel. Actually, there seem to have been reviews that refer to him as a Spitzel, so maybe I'm wrong about the term. As I said, German's not my native language. I'd be interested to hear what a native German speaker thinks.
Personally, I found the film mediocre. I think it was good that there was a film that challenged the recent Ostalgie. However, I found the transformation of the central character somewhat implausible; the film had a slightly self-absorbed conviction about the ability of art and artists to change people's lives.
EDIT: reading the sub-title of the card ("democratic leader exposed as Stasi informant"), it's clear that the picture doesn't fit the card; a picture of Lothar de Maiziere would definitely make more sense.

Take one from Gregor Gysi and GMT would get Publicity. A very prominent one was the first party leader of the Social Democrats. There are thousands of examples...
No true, he is member of the Linke Party (The Left), formaly known as SED (United Socialists of Germany, an enforced blend from the GDR's SPD and the communists)not to be mixed with SPD (Social-democratic Party of Deutschland).
