My copy of D-Day dice uses dedicated individual game boards, 16mm labeled dice (they've already seen a lot of play), a laminated reference card with the game logo on the back, stacks of play sheets for each mission, and of course, a little green Army man.
LOL it was your post that made me wish I had taken a photo of the copy I made for the PnP Secret Santa. It came out way better than this one.
But even worse than that, after posting this photo I combined those three boards into one hinged board that looks like this: /\/ using some black book binding tape. It came out looking really good! I'll probably wait until the next map is released, create a fourth panel to the growing board, and then take a photo and post that.
Those boards are seriously cool! How are they made?
Well...
I used black pebble board (like mat board but with a pockmarked/textured surface) and stuck two sheets back to back. That gave me a nice and thick, textured black game board. The game map is simply an inkjet print on glossy label paper, corners rounded, and centered on the board. Then I used a brush and drawing ink to blacken the edges (the center of the pebble board is usually an off white). I find that ink is easier, faster, lasts longer, and smells better than using a Sharpie marker.
