Much better.

I'm pleased that the A, B, C, D place markings have been incorporated into the larger board and that there is city streets on the south side of the river.

You're really fast, Jonathan. I didn't even have the time to post my notes.

The state of the board is "almost done". Based on the feedback from the UK Expo we made the board larger - it's 76,5cm x 61cm now which is 40% larger than the prototype. We also made the frame represent the colors of the wind directions which might help to see the movement of the fire a little better,

There are some things that will be done before printing:
*) Adding more detail to the river area and the card spaces.
*) Maybe adding the game title somewhere
*) Possible color adjustments of the areas

If there's some helpful feedback and time left, I can still change minor things.

Forgot to color correct it for the web. Here's a more accurate version ...

Meanwhile some changes have been applied like adding the "5" icon to Cripplegate, the extension of the river and some color adjustments of the regions.

I'm confused by the compass and the use of Colors. It looks like Orange and Green are reversed in the Compass.

All of the Green arrows on the board are pointing East, and the Orange arrows are pointing West, but the Compass in the top left corner shows that it should be the opposite.

Yes it does look like the compass and map border for E and W need flipping.

I think Andreas was looking to play about a little with colours to distinguish them. The actual PRINT version of the colours DOES look more distinct -this was adjusted for the web I believe.

As I said before - color adjustments will be done before printing. If my proof software can be trusted in this case here the color-blind will have less problems with green/blue than with blue/purple. I'll look into that later anyway. If you any suggestions for good colors - keep them coming.

Thanks.

looks good. i like that there isn't any repeat copies of the same image. not a big fan of the green that is used on the fields however; if it were me, i'd make the fields a dark forest green.. there's my suggestion.

That is one of the most awful, artificial, and amusing game boards I have seen.

Now before you get angry, in 1666 awful meant full of awe, artificial meant artistic (or filled with art), and amusing meant clever.

I'll admit that I know nothing about this game as it's the first time I've looked at it, but I'm confused by the wind arrows...

The red and blue arrows seem to point TOWARDS the same colored edges of the board, whereas the green and orange arrows seem to point AWAY from the same colored edges. Is this correct, or am I just reading the directions of the arrows wrong?

Could you put some street names in? It is the kind of personal touch that would make the map that much better (and it is very good already).

Edit: though I could see how it could clutter things up too much too. I just thought it would be cool.

Basically a good idea, but I agree that it would make the whole thing a little more cluttered and confusing.

Yes whilst nice in some ways there are already a lot of names on the board - all needed for the game. Too much writing would make it cluttered.

the Roads contains the direction arrows and I think road names as well would make them difficult to see clearly.

I still get quite confused by the 4 way arrow markers (the fire moving NE, NW, SE, SW). As an idea to combat this perhaps the compass rose could change slightly to something like this:

Why? Seriously, I don't understand the need some publishers feel to put the game title on the board. It may be common practice in mass-market games, but outside that field, no major publisher does it.

A number of players asked us to do this. Others dont care. So I think it comes as much from gamers as publishers.

Usually I would agree with you but here it works really well because it enhances the mood of the map. Most maps have some title written on them.

I agree. I can see that the title 'Great Fire: London 1666' would work quite well... although I am still not sure if the title of the game will be 'Great Fire: London 1666' or 'The Great Fire of London 1666'.

Charming game board.

You could easily fit the title of the game on the lower left corner of the board. I think it's a good idea, personally.

If the rules of the game carry the theme as well as the board does, I will definitely be picking this one up. laugh

I have put a draft of the rules here:
http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/560275/rules-anywhere

I emphasize this is a draft and that the lay out/style has yet to be sorted . But it should be enough to give you a handle on the game mechanics.

I would like to say this is a lovely, gorgeous board. I love that it is hand drawn and lettered while remaining very functional. Big thumbs up from me, Richard and Andreas! Can't wait to have this sitting on my table.

P.S. Also a big thumbs up that you guys are on here yourselves posting artwork and rules explanations. It's nice to see designers and artists who are giddy about their game!
