Not bad, but i do Miss subtlety in this design . If I'm not mistaken it is the same designer as sherwood forest, which was much more atmospheric. I do see there are a lot of grids on the board, but I find the way everything is layed out way too straightforward. It's certainly no Cuba...

Right you are, Rafael,
Michael Menzel nowadays is pretty booked and not always affordable. But you will find Michael Menzel in and outside of the anniversary game.

Careful, even though I'm a great fan of menzel's work he is certainly not the only great designer out there. I just have a preference for board designs that manage to transform something as dull but necessary as a grid into sth just as practical but also beautiful to look at. It is no small feat, I know, but they certainly exist and I was just expecting more for this game, that's all.

I'm very, VERY curious about the anniversary game, though. You're being very secretive about it

I rather love my "Einbecker Ur-Bock" close to my hometown. The tradition is going back to the 13th century - as many breweries in Germany. When was the first settlement of some Bititsh delinquents in Australia again?

But no kidding - I will try to find out where to get it over here.

Wish they had used the box art image of the vintner as the main board image rather than the 70's looking cheese and wine party. Very Swingtown!

Hmm, probably a bad idea to put modern people on the game board, photo or otherwise because it immediately dates the game. I don't think I have seen a Euro with modern people on it. If some people think they look like they're from the 70s already, how will they look to gamers 10 years from now?

Yep, the Mateus Rose and Blue Nun are flowing in that picture.

A Cheese Fondue and wine party then?

I strongly dislike the characters's 70 attires and their expressions. The rest is not much better.

I love this board. If I had to choose between this and Vinhos based solely on the board, I would be picking this one hands down. The Vinhos board is just way too busy.

I don't understand the problem with setting the game in a certain time period. A bunch of games are set in a certain period. Arkham Horror - 1920's. Caylus - 1289. Any wargame has a set time period. So what makes this one so unacceptable?

for me it's not about the setting of the game being "set in 1970s" (it's also debatable if this was the intention), but rather looking like an old design, as opposed to some of the amazing things we have been getting used to the past few years (in the good cases). The whole thing is just a bit too bland to my taste. But thank goodness to each his own.
