Nicely done... What are your thoughts on the hand behind the figure? To me it looks wrong.

laugh Great names.

The inking was rather effective. Surprising in fact how well it was pulled off instead of just painting over the translucency of the flame areas.

Yep, I agree it looks in the wrong place (should be behind/under the fireball IMHO).

Thanks

Must have taken about six washes just to get that much yellow on though.

Did you use matt varnish prior to inking so that the ink would stay affixed to the unprimered model, or did you just wash the model as it was?

Yeah, I used matt varnish first. That transparent plastic is really bad for taking paint, even after a good wash.

Ah, it's ink is it? I wondered how you'd got colour over the transparency as soon as I saw the image. It's an absolutely awesome effect!

Thanks, but no its not actually ink (sorry I was just taking 'inking' as a general term for the technique). It's actually yellow thinned with a 'future/klear' wash; although realy more like wash tinted with yellow.

Thanks for the explanation. When I get around to painting my set I'll check back here so I know what to do

http://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/560737/what-are-you-pain... check the bottom of page 1. I've put some links explaining the 'future/klear' wash in case you haven't come across it before.

Thanks Jim. To be honest it's one of those 'skills' that's more a combination of perspiration and experience masquerading as talent

Thanks - been experimenting with inking these transparent minis! More varnish should do the trick.

Yeah, you really need a matt varnish to give the inks a key.

What color paint did you use to get the skeleton to look green? And did you want it to look green or in the D&D lore is it supposed to be that color. Either way it looks really great, i plan on painting all my figures soon.

The green just comes from yellow washes over the translucent blue plastic. OK I'll admit it's a bit odd for flame but if there's too much paint on it it'll lose the translucent effect. Basically, I just kept applying yellow washes until I was happy with the effect.

No, Cote D'Arms, but they're effectively the old Games Workshop paints (there's a conversion chart here: http://www.hiveworldterra.co.uk/Article/view_CoatDArmsConver...)
