For those interested, these are un-primed, dipped with Minwax Polyshades Antique Walnut Satin, sprayed with Armory Matte and finally flocked with Gale Force 9 static grass.

The picture doesn't do the flock justice. It blends in amazingly well with the board and hides the slot completely.

Also, I painted the forked part of the flagpoles to blend in with the banners. Again, the picture doesn't show how hard it is to see the fork when it's set up for play on the board. I painted a very light coat of dip on the poles starting where the wood texture begins, then hit them with a shot of the matte spray.

So far, I'm about half way through painting the base set of figures, so I'll try to get some in play shots when that's finished, to illustrate the pleasant effect of the painted flagpoles and flocked bases.

Love the painted fork twist on the flag poles...if I buy that game I would definitely do that, looks way better.

Yep, very simple way to make them look good (I'm starting to want this game just for the minis).

Question after a year: being un-primed, did the color stick on the plastic? Priming bore me a lot....

Has it been a year? Yeah, the figures look just the same. Primer is overrated.

Keep in mind that I used Minwax Polyshades Dip and then sprayed them with matte finish.

These figures look a lot nicer now with the premium banners and I painted a band of red around the bases to make the leaders stand out on a crowded battlefield.
