With my copy, I have all the tiles in the same direction and they still look like the pile to the right, so I'm saying it probably doesn't matter much.
Yes the old ones are first and the newer ones are the bent ones. They are all facing the right way as to form a room stack. Still payable since the tiles seem to bend in such a way that the corners all touch the playing surface. The worst one was the hallway which is 3 tiles long.
Obviously the new tiles are superior. The tall stack means thicker tiles which means better quality! At least, that's how these pictures usually go....

The game is really 3 dimensional with the new tiles...
I have played the old version, and own the new, and if I could choose one of the two, I think I would opt for the new version by a nose. My set is warped about as much as those pictured here, but the clips don't rip up the character cards and there are several corrections and improvements to cards and room text. Yeah, the warping is not cool, but it doesn't wreck the game for me.

My character cards can't manage to keep some of the clips on the pieces. I'm not sure which I prefer.
Should be noted their customer service is cooperative in this matter. My tiles are worse than what you posted if you can believe. My first contact with them where I 'suggested' they replace my tiles was met with them suggesting I apply some weight to them for a bit to flatten them out and if I was 'comfortable' to bend them a bit back into shape.
Well I took their advise and gave it a try to no avail. My second email I mentioned I tried the suggestion they recommended and, again, 'suggested' they replace them and without hesitation they are in the process of doing so now.
It appears the stock is of different quality can you confirm?
Everything in this newer edition is warped. The character cards in the copy I played yesterday were severely warped as were all the room cards. Just horrible quality. If the boardgame community doesn't speak out about this then Wizards will think they can get away with this quality all the time.

They are about the same thickness maybe the new are just slightly thinner, but the new ones have a nicer finish on them, (it could be that my copy has 50+ plays on it). I like the new tiles from my plays with them but I just can't get over the warping.
Just saw this pic and thought "mine aren't that bad" but it has been boxed up since punching... Sure enough I just opened it and yep mine look like that now.

I don't even own it, and that makes me grumpy.... I'm sorry.
There is no excuse for that kind of quality, and it should be addressed by the publisher. I agree with another poster, this turns me off of buying the new edition, and I had put it on the radar too... Shameful.
Made in China... The tiles from my copy became like this almost as soon as I opened the box. I left the turn track on my dining room table at night and the next morning it was all bent, by some evil force.
Yes, shrubberies are my trade. I am a shrubber. My name is Roger the Shrubber. I arrange, design, and sell shrubberies.
Oh, what sad times are these when passing ruffians can say Ni at will to old ladies. There is a pestilence upon this land, nothing is sacred. Even those who arrange & design shrubberies are under considerable economic stress in this period in history
I've played a few times with a friend's copy. All of the cardboard is comparably warped, but the starting piece (foyer, stairs, etc.) is the worst because it's so long. It's still functional, but it looks terrible.
Also, some of the plastic stat markers are too loose on the character cards and don't stay in place.
It's odd that Wizards of the Coast should make such a blunder, considering the high quality of the Castle Ravenloft components. I wonder why these ones ended up so crappy?
This picture could be of my copy. I love the game but am pretty bummed about the warping issue.
Mine looks just like this as well. I was super stoked about getting this new version and when I opened the box to play it for the first time and all my tiles were warped, I was pretty disappointed.
Make that 9. I'm waiting on a response in this thread from a couple of folks who will post when they receive their replacement tiles from WOTC. I own the first edition, but have been eagerly awaiting a version with the errata corrected and the new haunts. Looks like I can continue waiting until I see some positive customer service out of WOTC and some proof that they can fix the manufacturing issues.
Bought this a few days ago. Punched it out in preparation of playing it on Halloween then put it away. Broke it out last night and was greeted with warped tiles. Promptly closed the lid and played Arkham Horror instead.
I am going to return it to the seller after work this afternoon for a full refund. I wont accept an exchange. Normally I would but after seeing this thread my faith is that any exchange I do get will be met with the same fate.
Thus being the last boardgame I will ever buy from WotC. Castle Ravenloft lacked this issue, but the game play was poor so this is indeed the straw that broke the camel's back for me.

Sorry to repeat, but man I'm glad I kept my old copy now. I had the new version in my shopping cart just the other day and I talked myself out of it. Phew. I'll never buy it now.
after seeing this I immediately shoved some silica gel packs in the box after punching on saturday. so far so good.....
Still feel bad for those caught out though. looking at the cardboard it definately is rather cheap looking. Shame as the components themselves look nice.
I was somewhat dismayed to hear about this warping issue, but I still bought the second edition because I don't own the first. It's a fantastic game, and I was very sad when I missed out on the first edition (and I'm unwilling to pay upwards of $200 for a single board game, no matter how good it is.)
Hopefully they will correct the issue for future print runs, but for now it seems that customer service is being cooperative to replace components that are unacceptable to those who bought them.
Mistakes happen. Printing defects happen. What's important is how the company reacts to their mistake and so far WotC seems to be reacting the right way.
My character tiles have already started warping, but I don't think it's enough to matter while playing. The room tiles seem to be staying straight, at least for now. Only the entrance tile has shown signs of bending. I can live with it how it is now, but if it gets much worse I may call on customer service myself. Either way, I don't regret buying the game. It's a modern classic and it's worth having at least one edition, IMHO.
As an observation, the hole in the plastic tray that's meant to hold the room tiles seems to curve a little to steeply at the bottom, and I wonder if this has anything to do with the warping effect. I threw it away after punching everything and just keep the game components in the empty box and like I said, the room tiles haven't started bending (yet.)
Mine are like that too, so I am glad to know it wasn't some humidity problem in my house.
However, if you turn them all the same direction, they sit flat and it isn't a problem. Even the warping on the foyer tile isn't a big deal. If I had to choose between paying a modest sum for the new one, warped slightly, and a princely sum for the old one - I'd choose the new one.
Despite the warping, we played like 6 games of this on Halloween, and it was fantastic! None of my three players cared about the warped tiles and everyone had a blast.
-$10.00 Price payed for 1st edition copy -$33.00 Price payed for 2nd edition copy $159.00 Price gained for selling 1st Edition copy last spring $116.00
$116.00 makes me pretty willing to put up with the bendy tiles that don't really hurt game play...
I wonder how the publishers can let these things happend: they're going to sell the game, they're going to make money... Why they don't give us a quality product?
Well... sure, they're ugly to look at stacked like that. Mine are pretty warped, too (everyone who has the second edition has warped tiles). Still, there were many great improvements to the overall game, and these warped tiles (while being ugly when stacked) do not effect game play. When they're in play, no one even notices that they're warped. Do I wish that they weren't? Sure. Do I think I deserve to have my tiles replaced? Not really. That would just cause too much hardship on AH and possibly prevent them from offering more great games. I do hope that this is considered when producing future products, however.

Our experience has been quite different. The room tiles are annoying and if there is movement they tend to slip under each other. The worst part has been the new character tiles. If we pick them up the sliders fall off or move. I think that manufactures should be held responsible for putting out defective products. Stronghold games has just had an issue like this with meeples being stuck together and instead of releasing the product they are holding onto it for another month until they can make it right, I think that's the right call.
I can see your point, and I agree to some extent. If they offered free replacements, I'd probably jump on that. I suppose I was wrong when I said that it didn't effect that game play, because of course it does. What I should have said is that it doesn't ruin the game play. I'm still very happy with my copy, but I also suspect that yours may be more warped than mine are.
Now, as for Stronghold games... are we talking about Survive? I really hope not, because I'm desperately awaiting that game. If it is, however, I think it's great that they're correcting the issue before they release the game. It's a sad fact that small publishers try to make sure that they offer top of the line products, but the industry giants don't give a flip. (Even that isn't totally true, if you consider Rio Grande and Z-Man giants, because they always offer excellence and/or replace moldy bits.)

Yeah I love Betrayal, you can see it's one of my highest ranked games. Everything about this game is better than the old version except the tiles. I have just started playing with all of the new stuff and the old tiles and that has worked great. It's a great game.
And I am talking about Survive! You can see the thread here... Preorder Delayed
That both breaks my heart and makes me happy. It's great to see that they're so dedicated to providing a great product, but I also can't wait to have that game! ha ha. Thanks for the heads up on that.
Well ... make that 100 for me!!! I was set on buying this game since I sold my sealed copy a few years ago.
Definitely going to pass now. I have noticed that the original game has come way down in price. I will be buying one of those instead!!
What a shame but its a deal breaker for me. I had a similar problem with an early version of dungeoneer and it really was a pain in the ass to the play the game with the map warped!!

Cant believe they ruined this game like this!!
They didn't ruin the game. Even Mr. Basil, who posted this image, said that it's only an annoyance and not a game breaker. You guys are just big babies.
Yep, as consumers we have no right to be discerning as to how we spend our money or what we can expect for that money.
We should accept whats given to us and be thankful for it instead of whining and moaning about how defective materials shouldn't be tolerated.
I am now reporting to room 101 for re-education for my thoughtcrime. Soon I too will wave the flag of the Collective for The Greater Good.
Its the Collective's money I am spending afterall, not my own.
I think you misunderstand my statement, really. I work a job I hate 9 hours a day 7 days a week, so you can believe that I am concerned about the money that I spend on things that I have little time to enjoy. I just don't think this is a huge issue. I would be happier if they weren't warped, sure... but this doesn't break the game, man. It would be different if the art peeled off, or if they were too warped to play with. I'm disappointed that they're not more perfect, but I'm not going to let it ruin the game for me.
Thanks for the 1984 reference, though. I love Orwell, and that particular reference also makes me think of Lost.
This pic could have the caption: "Space Hulk 1st edition tiles vs 3rd edition" and still be accurate. What's more, the cardboard layers of the tiles on the right appear to be dark gray rather than white. I don't know if this indicates a different cardboard type (of lower quality, perhaps?), but Space Hulk tiles look just the same... I wonder if there is a connection...

Oh, man! That game looks great. I want it, too, but I wouldn't trade my copy of Betrayal for it; I want both!
It looks like they went from white heacy card stock to a cheaper thin recycled cardboard. Now, I'm all in favor of being green, but I think the components of the cardboard may lend a bit to the warping issue more than the thickness.
Here I am, taking a little backwater! (Only a little; I said I'd take replacements if they were offered, didn't I?) Anyway, do we just e-mail them and explain the situation?

Yeah its in the links. Just go to the WotC web site and register and fill out a form. Just say you have warped boards and they will add you to the list with everybody else.
I just bought Betrayal at my FLGS this weekend; no warped tiles, but the character sheets are too thin (or the plastic tabs are too wide) so the stat sliders are too loose. We decided it was just easier to only use the tabs when our stats change from their starting values.
Has anyone tried using paper clamps (sold at Office Max) to prevent warping while in storage? After all, Paper and wood are approximately the same material and I use clamps to reshape wood back to their original sturdiness.
