Has anyone tried playing with both boards connected like this with 6 or more people? Just an idea that came to mind when seeing the boards lined up like that.

I've played 6 people with just the 5 player map and it still works great. It's crowded but that's part of the fun!
You could probably do 8 people if you can stand the down time.
I don't think an OCD person would do this to themselves unless masochism was also included in the mix. Besides, the "wave" along the bottom clearly rules out the use of a straightedge.

The edges aren't straight enough. The bits aren't lined up and grouped properly and straight enough. Not centered and both sides are different widths. Too much chaos and disorder. That and the handle on the window or door isn't properly aligned with the framing.
ahh....I love the smell of a stack of sketchily placed animals in the morning!
I contest: no one with an OCD would have a glass table...or have a potted plant within another pot..or have white floors...or play small world with all its blatent plastic insert issues and clumsy stacks of cardboard everywhere on the board! sheesh.
I've not played Small World (yet). Are the Dwarfs lacking?
They are a little weak, but that's kind of the point. Some races are strong, some are weak. You skip the weaks one (paying VP each time to the race) to get the strong ones. At some point the free VP (if you take the race you get the VP paid to skip it) with the weak race is worth it. It's a nice self-balancing mechanic in the game.

Interesting, but I think the down time between turns would be a deal breaker.
You could even put mountain tiles on all but one mountain region, if you place it on the border of the 4 pairs of adjacent spaces.

I played 6 players for the first time using Necromancer Island just the other day.
This past weekend, my friends and I played a 6 player game with the two maps connected very similarly to what's shown here. I can't remember which two sides we put together, but we found two that matched up fairly well without being too confusing.
I think the final verdict among us was that it works better just to have 6 players on the 5 player map. It was a little too spread out for our liking. Maybe if you were trying to make a 7 or 8 player game, it would be better.

I've done the 8-player version, connecting the 5p and 3p maps. It worked ok for a quick entertaining hack.
