I like it much better than the "old" version, but Mike Doyle's version is the most beautiful to me. Still, great work, i'm very anxious to discover the new board and tiles
Awesome looking cover! I actually prefer the art on the tiles and board of the original printings. There is no need to fancy up the tiles, it makes the symbology harder to understand. It was difficult for me to play the special edition for that reason.
Whaaaat?! I loved the guy from the original cover! He was so fun to mock. That's how I used to communicate to my gaming partners that I was in the mood for a game of Caylus, folding my arms and looking cross.
If they wanted to change the artwork fine, but I wish they would have left the original logo. There's something to retaining the legacy of the game. Plus the new logo is hard to read and the first letter looks like a carcassonne tile
X1000 better than the original cover. Hopefully the board artwork is upgraded as well.
My thoughts, exactly. I might buy this new edition if they do improve the board art, although I have never played the game. I think people generally overlooked the ugliness of the board because the covers were so awful. And I also disliked the special edition, which had a somewhat confusing and polluted board.
Now where is that Kahless version from the Mattel Photoshop Contest? That one I would buy without hesitation. It's a shame the pictures from the contest are gone.
Anyone know when this new edition is supposed to be released?
+1. I want this game as I don't have it yet, and want to see what comes in the new box to see which I will go for (I can borrow a cousins edition till then).
It is too bad that Kahless journeyed on to Sto-vo-kor during the 9th century instead of the 13th. Precludes a crossover that could only improve an already great board game
Here is the first upgrade I made to a copy of Caylus, five years ago:
