Promotional component shot of the new reprint of Shogun/Samurai Swords: Ikusa. (NOTE: If you look on the bottom right of the pic, you will see 15 icons in 5 colors so there will indeed be 5 players, not 4)
Is this a 4 or a 5 player game? Only 4 shown here. The components look better than the older version. However, the layout and everything look the same. Not sure if the fancy new pieces will be enough for me to upgrade. Maybe worth it for the additional colors. What about an 8 player game!
Edit: Seems there are 5 players. Definitely thinking about it for a bigger game.
BorderCon 101 - Bring the fun, bring a smile, grab a game from the pile. Place the Meeple, play a card, swing your sword and kill the guard! So make the trip, don't be docile, look for details on my profile!

They got rid of the 5 swords you use to determine play order! Unthinkable!
Couldn't agree more. When everything else looks so sexy - this omission seems a little cheap. They were so iconic.
I give them big points for upgrading the styofoam trays to black sculpted plastic. That alone makes up for the lack of inclusion of the swords, IMO. The colors of the soldiers are much better as well. Everything else looks the same. I'll be interested to see whether the rules have been modified at all.
The board features 5 samurai illustrations, 3 of which are shown on the screens opposite the camera. Leads me to believe this eill in fact remain a 5 player game.
I have my copy of Shogun so unless there were some kind of major overhaul of the game system that made it play better I can't see myself picking up a new copy. Colors are cool sure, plastic molds are cool sure, board is pretty sure. Still looking at these bits (even the arrow markers are present) looks to be an exact reprint and BRAVO for bringing this amazing game back but I don't need 2 copies.
Looks nice, but the fact that the emblems on the army markers are cut off irks me a bit.
Agreed--maybe this was a misprint but looked good enough for them to go with it for promotional/release reasons? Hopefully they'll fix it--otherwise it is too stylized and contemporary a look for the flag-bearers.
He has 5 Koku when he should only have 4 for controlling 12 provinces.
Dirty dirty cheater. I was always suspicious of Purple's treachery. Now I have proof!
nice catch.
It seem photographers that arrange pieces on the board for the back cover/promotional shots have a very slight knowledge about the game mechanic of the subject. I saw plenty of these examples. One i recall just now is Medina.
Does the paper stock for the shields look a little thin? Same thing for the army formation cards? Ever since I picked up the new Betrayal I'm concerned about the quality of the components from Hasbro. Why pay for the better trays but cheap out on the cardboard?
