You're right Daniel. Most of the spaniards that fought on May 2nd 1808 in Madrid were civilians. However some Spanish soldiers and low rank officers, notably Captains Daoiz and Velarde, contravening their explicit orders, did fight (either wearing their uniforms or without them)
I work with what's available to me... Originally the Spaniards were some Russian Napoleonic-era line troops that got Guernica-ed a bit to make them look more like a rugged urban mob. I rather like the result
