In the First World, this decade saw the emergence of pop and dance music. As the term disco fell out of fashion by the early part of the decade, genres such as post-disco, Italo disco, Euro disco and dance-pop in general became popular in the 1980s. Rock music was also very popular throughout the decade, especially New Wave, soft rock, and glam metal.
