Deluxe Europe map.

An odd game that did not get to Step 3.

I was in a position to end it with 13 cities built and power plant capacity to power 12 cities. Phil, Harv, and DaveM could power 10, and DaveS 9.

So I ended it. 15 cities, could power 12 (and 40+ Elektro left).

Finishing order as per list above.

Scenario 103 as Germans vs Jono

A game I thought would be short as Jono got a 155 radio very early on, but I managed to take out his leader on the left flank not much later, and then got a support roll event myself. I could have had a 75 radio, but opted instead for Sgt. Grein. This was fortuitous as he was able to sweep along the eastern (bottom) side of the map and pick up the two teams (formerly a squad, but I took an earlier event opportunity to split it into two teams) to go reinforce the house in objective 4.

Time was becoming a major issue as time triggers kept popping up, and the vp track was inexorably moving my way.

His para troops advanced into the house and we both had two ambush cards in hand. He eliminated in team, while I was able to merely reduce two of my three teams. Pre melee total was 13-9. I rolled a 7 and held the initiative card.

Jono conceded at that point as both his leaders were out and I could merely play it out for time. It old normally have been a surrender at that point anyway, save for the fact he had an élan event earlier.

This game taught me that splitting a squad into two teams is actually useful sometimes. They're stronger in melee and moderately more resilient due to having multiple pieces that need to be eliminated.

August 1941 - Atlantic
Successful attack on convoy sinks 2 ships for 14500 tons.
But, the escort finds me and damages my diesel, aft torp door, and fuel tanks. Engines successfully repaired, but the fuel tanks force an aborted patrol.

September 1941
Refit. Promoted to FKpt

October 1941 - Atlantic
Convoy - sink 3 for 20700 tons. Event for Hals & Beinbruch!
However, another escort attack caused damage. Radio and Aft torpedo door rendered inoperable. Inconceivably, no hull damage.

November 1941
Refit
12th successful patrol = crew roll... 2WO experte

December 1941 - Arctic
Aircraft attack en route! But crash dive.
2 ships for 15600 tons
Arctic patrol is *not* permanent.

January 1942
Refit

February 1942 - North America
Aircraft in Biscay avoided by crash dive
Aircraft in transit avoided by crash dive
2 ships for 9800 tons
Sister ship encountered on return voyage, but all systems go!

March 1942
Refit

April 1942 - Atlantic (back to a target rich environment)
Aircraft attack in Biscay on way out! Massive damage - both electric engines, the forward torpedo doors, the dive planes, and a serious crew injury. The aircraft was damaged though, and the attack ended. The engineer needed his experte on three of the four rolls and managed to repair all systems! He's definitely getting a knight's cross.
Another aircraft in transit avoided by crash dive.
Convoy encountered, escort causes hull damage.
3 ships for 29900 tons.
Gyrocompass failure on the way home, and an aircraft attack in Biscay is avoided by a crash dive.

May+June 1942
Refit.
15th successful patrol, crew becomes elite!

Next patrol July 1942.

Net totals: 12 ships and 90500 tons

Crew? LI Experte again, so no change.

June 1941 back to the British Isles
Convoy!
Scania 2000

Shenanigans!!! J/k Roger. :D

Shenanigans it is!!

Re-did my patrols.

September 1939 in the British Isles saw two small freighters go down for 9700 tons.

November 1939 4 ships for 19,200 tons, but there was hull damage and a couple of systems knocked out, for a two month refit.

February 1940 was the sweet sweet sweet month where KptLt Weber sunk the BB Malaya for 31,500 tons. Only two of the four torpedoes hit, but neither were duds, and a lucky pair of rolls got me the 5 damage needed for a capital ship. The escort even let us slip away unnoticed. A convoy of two large freighters and two tankers saw only one torpedo hit and after taking some minor damage from an escort attack, we escaped to sink the damaged tanker.

The April mission saw mines successfully deployed and we only found two small but unescorted freighters the rest of the way.

June, last but not least, netted one small unescorted freighter. We then found a convoy but it was the day time and we tried to sneak it into the night for some extended action and lost contact. DOH!

Next mission begins August 1940.

11 ships sunk, 82,100 tons. Knight's Cross. One capital ship sunk. Crew now veteran.

British Isles-Choice-British Isles-British Isles-British Isles(M)-British Isles

The ghost of Mann apparently haunted this vessel as its first two (TWO!) missions saw nothing but open water the entire time (save for the loose torpedo that seriously wounded a crewman). The second mission was in the Atlantic.

The third mission saw a convoy, but despite multiple contacts all we got was some hull damage, flooding, wounded crew members, and a two month refit.

The fourth mission was better. The minelaying operations were a success and we also managed to sink three ships.

The fifth mission was almost a dead loss, but we found one ship to bring the total to four, and in the final run home in the Bay of Biscay another torpedo broke loose for another crew injury.

A disappointing beginning to the second round!

2/5 missions successful.
4 ships sunk.
26,700 tons
