In addition, the new and revised content instructs players on how to take full advantage of the tie-in D&D miniatures line planned to release in the fall of 2003 from Wizards of the Coast, Inc.

The player's handbook saw a number of printings but there were three significant versions of this handbook. The first printing and subsequent printings which fixed a small number of typos and other minor corrections (Wizards provided errata in PDF format for this though it was always from the perspective of the first printing - if you had later printings you likely had some of the errata included). The Special Editions (normal hardcover and leather bound) were both dated October 2004 and bear the inscription "Special Edition - October 2004" on the title page. These included all of the known errata at the time.
