Spielbox has some images of the announced Hanabi Deluxe Edition. The design is not final yet but it will come in a wooden box and contain engraved playing pieces instead of cards. The price tag is 59,99 EUR.

I love special editions but that's a lot for some custom dominos. I also have concerns over the practically of the pieces over the cards.

Would much prefer some type of card similar to that used in Redakai that gave the impression of a firework exploding.

Anybody know where you'll be able to get it? Regular distribution in the US or Europe only?

Love 'em even if a few games get scuttled from time to time.

Looks really neat but likely priced out of my range, especially if it has to be imported to the US rather than getting regular distribution here.

Those tiles need to be thicker like Mah-jongg tiles. Or the game needs to come with tile racks.

I am really struggling to see how this would work well with dominos over cards...

Thank you to all concerned.

Have been considering $250 deluxe Takenoko, so €60 does not seem outrageous for a special quality game, which will see a lot of heavy use.

Hoping the tiles will be indestructible and chunky enough not to wobble over.

If they are engraved, couldn't you feel what you have in your hand? You would have to hold them on the edges.

You're not going to be holding them. They'll be standing on end/in a rack during gameplay. You might move them around, but it's easy to hold them by the edges then.

All tiles could be engraved with 5 positions only some of which are colored specific to the value.

Or they might just go with the "looks engraved, but isn't" style. I see that on lots of Mah-jongg sets. And decent Mah-jongg tiles hold up to a LOT of abuse during shuffling and gameplay, even when not engraved.

If the tiles aren't thick enough to stand up for themselves I am not buying this....especially at eighty bucks.

The Spielbox description says that it will be designed for the tiles to stand on the table in front of the players. So it's probably safe to assume that the tiles will be thick enough not to tip over too easily.

For me that's actually the best improvement the game can get. But at that price I could wear down 8 sets of the standard edition instead. It will have to look really really good for me to buy it for 60 EUR.

I am wondering what the 6th color (the rainbow / multi-colored one) will look like on those tiles.
