I played my cat Maggie in a game of Fluxx. I dealt out the hands, keeping hers face down, and played any cards she pawed at during her turn. With my wife looking on as a curious observer, here is a report of that session:
I led off with a new rule of drawing two cards per turn.
She sniffed the two new cards I dealt her, and she pawed at one. I flipped it over and it was "Bread".
I then played Chocolate, getting a keeper on the board.
She wisely contemplated her next move, and this time, knocked one of the cards off the table. Now we're getting 3 cards per turn. An aggressive move which I questioned, but she wasn't providing any answers.
I then drew my three cards, and saw the goal of Toast. Knowing she would be looking for that card, I kept it in my hand, and instead I played "War"
After dealing her cards, she paused for a bit with a yawn (oh no, I was already losing her!), then finally selected The Rocket.
I grabbed my cards, and played the Sun. Looking over my hand, I had the Goal of Squishy Chocolate, I was one turn away from victory!
Maggie received her cards and gave me a look of hunger/affection/disinterest/contempt and pawed at a card. I flipped it over.. and it was "Play All"!. She kept pawing at cards, so I kept flipping them over as fast as she flicked them. First came "The Brain", then came "Time", then "Money".. there was a method to her madness... then she dropped her paw down on one card. I tried to get it from her, and she held on a moment. Finally, she batted it towards me and it was the goal "Rocket Science". Looking over the board and seeing "The Rocket" and "The Brain", it was soon evident to me that she was victorious in this game of Fluxx. She was also sending me some kind of message with this particular winning condition, but I'm not sure what...
Regardless, yes, I lost a game of Fluxx to my one and a half year old cat, Maggie. Due to my shame, it's now on my trade list. So if you would like to pick up a lightly played copy of Fluxx (with one or two bite marks on the cards), send me a PM.

If it was my cat, she probably would have picked up the card, run into the corner and eat it. (She's a bread fiend.)

That is a funny story.
Did that really happen or are you just very creative?
Any any rate, it's a good "thumbs up" post. LOL

Sadly, this is a true story. I was showing my wife how simple Fluxx is.

And simultaneously showing how pointless it is.

I'm not sure what you are on, sir, but it can't be good for you.
Fluxx is a great little filler game. No one I have introduced to the game (and there have been many) has disliked it.

It has the distinction of being the sole game I rate "1". It will take a great upheaving force for someone to make a game that I find more unplayable.

How many of them were cats?
If I were a movie reviewer, who liberally borrowed quotes from sources, I think my final edit of your comment would be:
"Fluxx is a great little filler game"
It's poorly rated for me, as well. Despite the fact my inlaws will play it. Or perhaps of that fact. Regardless, great (and sadly true) session report.

Chris, are you going to do a session report about that time you lost to your cat at Caylus, too?

Fluxx is a great little filler game. No one I have introduced to the game (and there have been many) has disliked it. It has the distinction of being the sole game I rate "1". It will take a great upheaving force for someone to make a game that I find more unplayable. Candyland. Done.
Candyland is better by worlds. It serves a purpose as a children's game, teaching color and turn taking. There's also a fairly interesting variant of Candyland where you draw a card and decide whether to stay with that card or take the next and be stuck with it.
Candyland fills an excellent spot of being designed for pre-readers by focusing on color only.
And the game is a reasonably predictable amount of time.
Had you gone to my profile, you would have see that not only have I done Candyland session reports, but I rate it a 3. Quite a bit higher than Fluxx.

At a science fiction convention we had fun playing Fluxx in a good pick-up location, where peoople could wander in, get handed 3 cards, play as long as they wanted, and wander out, all with the games going on. But what made it especially fun is that one of the players was a lovely winged cat.
The cat was stuffed, so the story isn't nearly as delightful as yours. But I like to tell it to annoy my oh-so-serious gamer friends by explaining that we brought in the cat to add some much-needed randomness because Fluxx isn't random enough.

The problem with Fluxx is not that it is random. It is that it is not fun.
When I bought Fluxx I took it to a friends house. A group of us played for the first time. I was the only one who hated it, they all went out and bought copies for themselves. I would have rather just sat around and talked.

Perhaps because at least one person likes the game of complaining better than a game of Fluxx. But I believe that Fluxx is as very good game and quite a bit of fun and a quite innovative design.

Any any rate, it's a good "thumbs up" post. LOL Sadly, this is a true story. I was showing my wife how simple Fluxx is. It's simple to play because it was designed so that every card can be played at any time. Not many games have that quality. (I'm sure there are several, but off the top of my head I cannot think of any.)
I don't mind that many people hate the game, but saying it's mindless or pointless or completely random is simply untrue.
I love your story!

Had you gone to my profile, you would have see that not only have I done Candyland session reports, but I rate it a 3. Quite a bit higher than Fluxx. This illustrates different tastes. I have liked Fluxx a lot since it appeared -- my family does too -- but I have never liked Candyland, even as a child. Played by the rules, it usually takes far too long for the attention span of the target audience. The variant you mention is good.
