Hello everyone.

I'm planning to host a Memoir tournament at the UK Games Expo 2014 in Birmingham (see Expo website for details*)...
*Tickets for the tourney go on sale as from 16th March.

http://www.ukgamesexpo.co.uk/bookevents.php?category=bor

We are also aiming to stage a participation event for anyone interested in trying the game.

I'll be posting more details here so watch this space.

Feel free to ask any questions here or via geek mail

It would be great to see faces old and new.
Looking forward to another great day's gaming.

Thanks Barry, it's always a great to play in the M44 tournament at the EXPO. I'm planning on helping out with the participation event, so not sure if I'll be in the tournament this year.

Hi John.

I'm looking forward to the participation event. It was good of you to volunteer for this because we've had lots of interest in the past from casual gamers watching the tournament, but it's proven difficult for me to cover both. Your help will be greatly received.

I'm pleased to say that Days of Wonder have indicated they may be able to help with some 'cool' additions for our gaming pleasure. As soon as I get firm details I'll let you know and post here for public interest.

Hi Greg

It will be good to catch up (again).
I think DoW have other bigger tournaments that attract their primary attention but any previous 'lack' of acknowledgement is more my fault than theirs. I just haven't shouted loud enough in the past

Count me in as well. Happy to help out with demo game as well. Are you looking at doing an epic demo game with several players aside Barry?

Will be good to meet up with some old friends and foes!

Hi David

The plan is to use an 'oversized' Breaklord map that, hopefully, Days of Wonder will send so that we can have a participation game running alongside the normal tournament. This way, any passing gamers that would like to try the game but have not registered for the tourney can just sit down and play a few turns to see how they like it.
More details will follow.

Thanks for the offer to help.
I suspect you may be too busy fighting your way through the tourney rounds

Bad timing mainly, and maybe the travel expense for some. Also, we do enjoy the tournament events and game play opportunities they provide but the UK Games Expo is so much more than just that. It's become THE must visit event for Gamers in the UK (IMO).
Enjoy your tourney and good luck.

What do you reckon guys, think we'd have enough for this beast when it lands:- Memoir '44: D-Day Landings

Obviously wouldn't be a tournament, but when else would you play the full 6 map scenario?

Although, I bet it's not out in time. And I don't think I'll buy enough to do it with my own collection

Quote:
~ 8 Base Games
~ 4-5 Terrain Packs (might have enough badges)
~ 2-3 Equipment Pack (might have enough units)
~ 6 Winter Wars
~ OPTIONAL: 4 Med. Theater Pack

Bet Sean has enough stuff to do it with his own collection!

EDIT: now booked, btw

MULE - 1983 - never surpassed!

More news on Participation Overlord...

I am going to run an Overlord-style 8-player participation game at least twice at the EXPO on Saturday 31st May.

Location has not been finalised - it may be next to the regular M44 tournament or we may get a spot in another room - I'll post any news on that here.

The intention is to open the game up to people on the day rather than have a booking system. That is a bit risky as I don't know if we'll get too few or too many - hopefully too many! I'm hoping to get some feedback here and gauge the interest level.

My estimate is that games will take up to 120 minutes to play - but if it reaches that time due to slow play or poor dice rolling I will declare a cut-off and the side with the most medals wins.

I'll aim to kick off the first game at 10:30, second game at 2:30.
If I can arrange it I will do a dry run on Friday evening.

Please post if you are interested - I am not reserving seats or guaranteeing a game - it will be a first-come basis on the day, and people will have to commit to the potential 2-hour slot.

Prior experience with the game will be a pre-requisite.
There are no prizes - just the fun experience of 4-a-side M44.

Post your thoughts, interest, questions, ideas and let me know if this is going to fly!

Greg - I would run it we could get the maps and the space - running the 8-player this year will give us experience to run a 12-player (or is there an overall commander to make it 14-player, or two commanders a side to make it 16-player!!!) next year.

Hi John

I'll be in the tournament on the Saturday, but would love a game friday night if there's one happening.

I think running this is a great idea and applaud your efforts. I hope you get a good location for it. I guess one thing you may have to contend with is people not playing for the whole two hours, but I could be wrong. Hopefully you'll have enough interest to handle that if it happens.

What overlord map are you thinking of?

Greg
