The goal of this varient is to court the king in as few turns as possible. The number of dice used and number of pips on those dice is also calculated into your high score. Play several times, trying to beat your own (or someone else's) high score.
Play with one of each card in play.
Keep track of how many turns you take. You must court the king within 10 turns or score 0 points.
After "Courting the King," take one additional turn, trying to beat your own roll. This last turn is a "freebie," so don't count it against your score.
Score as follows:
Formula: Your Score = ((10-number of turns) x 100) + # of dice used to get the king x 10 + # of pips on one die used to get the king
Narritive Explanation: Start with 1,000 points and subtract 100 every turn. Of your two rolls to get the king, use the best one (according to the standard rules). Think of the number of dice you used as the "tens" place, and the pips as the "ones" place, and add that to your score. For example: seven 1s would be 71 points. Eight 6s would be 86.
Examples: If your courted the king in 7 turns with seven 2s, your score would be 372 (300 + 70 + 2). If you courted the king in 10 turns with nine 4s, your score would be 94 (0 + 90 + 4). If you courted the king in 9 turns with ten 1s, your score would be 201 (100 + 100 + 1).
If you're having difficulty courting the king within 10 turns, start with 2,000 points instead. In this case, you have 20 turns to court the king instead of 10.

Not bad.
Although two things can be scored as best here:
- number of turns - number of equal dice
Courting the king in - say - 6 turns is good play, but rolling 12 sixes also. What is the bigger achievement?
First 2 plays:
295 115
First play: 8 rounds - 9 5s Second play: 10 rounds - 11 5s

Just played two games of this solitaire variant.
My scores: Game 1: 376 Game 2: 266
It is a good variant for us lonely gamers.
Thanks for posting.

Going to give this a try, with the following slight changes:
Instead of keeping track of how many turns it takes, just subtract 100 points for every character card (since you need to take 1 character per turn, including the king). For the purposes of scoring, the king and queen count as the same card. Charlatans count as two characters.
Start off with 1000 points. If you get more than 10 cards, you go into the negatives.

This is a nice quick game, useful for when waiting for other gamers to turn up at games meets
