I'm pretty sure many (most?) wargamers do this, but on what topics (defined whatever way you like) do you have multiple games?

Interesting. I will work through mine and see what I come up with. Off the top of my head areas of particular interest to me you don't appear to share are:
Ancients (non-Roman).
Medieval.
Napoleonic (Waterloo apart).
ACW Western theatre.
WW2 Pacific.
Naval and air war.
I will be intrigued to discover lacunae in my collection. Thanks for the inspiration.

These are broader topics than mine, which is fine as there all sorts of ways to categorise things. I have a number of games in those topics - I'll make a list a bit later.

I'm trying desperately to keep myself to 1 game per topic in an ever futile attempt to keep my game collection from overtaking the living room.

Alas I've failed a couple of times...

WW1 - German East Africa
=> 3 games

2nd Sino-Japanese War (early war, strategic)
=> 2 games

Napoleonic Wars - European Theater
=> 3 games... down from around 5

Russian Civil War
=> 2 games

Siege of Vienna 1683
=> 2 games

EDIT:

Spartacus Uprising
=> 3 games

People do love repetitions.

Books Published on Napoleon: +71,000 titles...

Books Published on Hitler: +32,000 titles...

Wargames still have a long way to go!

I think the topics I have the most game on are, roughly:

- Waterloo (6)
- Russian Front (12)
- Battle of the Bulge (6).
- American Civil War (6).

Couple of hundred topics - thousands of games - general hoarding/collector mentality - do the math - I think it will be an odd duck who hasn't got multiple games on the same topic .. and why shouldn't this be the case - if you love a subject you probably have more than 1 book on it, if you love a band, you'll probably own multiple albums, if you love beer you'll have multiple brands in the fridge etc.

Going by similarity of scale and objectives, no matter what the complexity, I have:

* Guns of Gettsysburg, Gettysburg Badges of Courage and Martin Wallace's Gettysburg (all played)

* Talavera (MMP/the Gamers) and a Talavera scenario in Spanish Eagles (just played the latter)

* A House Divided and the US Civil War (both played)

* Leuthen (VPG) and the Leuthen scenario in Prussia's Glory (don't think I played that scenario in PG)

* Richard III (Columbia) and Crown of Roses (GMT) (only played the former)

* Napoleon's Last Gamble, the Waterloo scenario in Fading Glory and the last edition of Napoleon: the Waterloo Campaign, which all roughly cover the same operational moves (only played Fading Glory).

Market Garden has long been a problem for me, but I have it pared down to 4 or 5 treatments, now.

"...the art of manoeuvering armies...an art which none may master by the light of nature. but to which, if he is to attain success, a man must serve a long apprenticeship." -- G.F.R. Henderson

No surprise that there are dozens--and in some cases scores--of titles on particularly popular battles/campaigns/strategic conflicts or wars. What is striking to me are the games on far more obscure or arcane topics. In my collection alone, I've got:

The Battle of Pavia, as well as the campaign:
-- All is lost to me: Pavia 1525
-- Pavia: Climax of the Italian Wars
-- All is lost save Honour

Frederick the Great at his first battle:
-- Bloody Fields of Mollwitz
-- Mollwitz 1741

Napoleon's scrambling at the Battle of Dresden in 1813:
-- Napoleon's Art of War: Eylau and Dresden
-- The Battle for Dresden 1813
-- La Bataille de Dresde

There's a few topics that I think it will be a while before there are more than just one game on it:
-- Türkenkrieg (1737-1739) and its expansion Heirs of the Golden Horde
-- Mistral: the Western Med 1740-48
-- A Lesser Wrath/Sommar Skrala
-- Remember Limerick! The War of the Two Kings: Ireland, 1689-1691 and its expansion Pro Religione et Libertate
-- Yellow Jack
-- Nothing Gained But Glory
-- Right Fierce & Terrible: Sluys 1340
-- Ram Anything Painted Gray

and still so much more not listed here.

Don't ask me how many games I've got on Gettysburg, or the Battle of the Bulge; its more than I've got fingers and toes to count on....

I think Eddy may be my spiritual doppelganger. I'm in a similar boat. I have all my games listed on Word documents alphabetically. I started to do a list but got bogged down in definitions and after 30 minutes realised I was still only 75% through A. So far my truncated list is headed by Medieval(5)- a statistical anomaly as I list all Au Fils de l'Epee games under A - ACW operational either 3 or 5 as I'm hopeless on definitions and WW2 operational(3). Ancients, Napoleonic strategic and WW2 Pacific strategic all score 2 and everything else is a 1. I then gave up as my head hurt.

I've been getting rid of games by the bushelful for about three years now. I still have 12 games on North Africa, 6 on the Pacific War, and 6 that cover the whole war (even though I offloaded World in Flames).
