First Event

Quote:
100 Meters (8 dice, 1 attempt)

Divide dice into two sets of four. Throw the first four dice until you are satisfied with the result. Freeze the first set. Throw the other four dice and proceed in the same manner. Try to freeze sets of dice with high values but which contain no sixes. Maximum of seven throws, one initial throw for each set and up to five re-throws which may be divided between the sets as desired.

Scoring: Total the value of the dice, but subtract any sixes from the result.

Dice roller tip: 4custom6{1;2;3;4;5;-6}
example = 4custom6{1;2;3;4;5;-6} = (1 + 4 + -6 + -6) = -7

Robert to play first. Avri and Erik have been in previous PBF games so I'm sure they can assist with any questions and keep this game on the rails. Good luck everyone!

Why did Dracula become a bank? To deal with suckers every day!

Sorry, but I'm not entirely sure what I'm doing. The first roll was a 10.

I'll add a second roll: 100 Metres 2nd roll 4custom6{1;2;3;4;5;-6} = (1 + 1 + 4 + -6) = 0

Okay, that doesn't make much sense since it shows a zero. Let's try a third: 100 metres 3rd roll 1d6 + 1d6 + 1d6 + 1d6 = (5) + (6) + (4) + (5) = 20

And a fourth. Looks like I should have stuck with the first attempt. I need to push it to five.5th roll first set! 4custom6{1;2;3;4;5;-6} = (4 + 2 + 2 + 1) = 9

Okay, that's better. 6th roll with the second set: 6th roll second set 4custom6{1;2;3;4;5;-6} = (4 + -6 + 1 + 4) = 3

No way. Last attempt. 7th roll with the second set: 7th roll with the second set 4custom6{1;2;3;4;5;-6} = (3 + 5 + -6 + 2) = 4

Oof. Overall it looks like my score for my first set was 9 and for my second set it was 4 for a grand total of 13.

Sorry to have kept you waiting for this hot mess.

Hi, Robert. Check out the "other" event to get a sense of what this looks like.

Bottom line, in this event you are looking for two sets of 4d6 as your score (with sixes counting negative.) You can lock a set of 4 or reroll hoping for a better score, but can only roll 7 times total.

Looks like Robert figured it out and set down a pacesetting time to beat.
Don't worry too much, Erik always manages to make average scores look good in this game . . .

Let's see if I remember how to do this . . .
Set 1, Roll 1 4custom6{1;2;3;4;5;-6} = (5 + 1 + -6 + 1) = 1 Wait, was that the starter's gun?
Set 1, Roll 2 4custom6{1;2;3;4;5;-6} = (3 + 1 + 1 + 5) = 10 Better start running . . .

Set 2, roll 3 4custom6{1;2;3;4;5;-6} = (5 + 2 + 3 + -6) = 4 Ahead of Robert, but only just . . .
Set 2, Roll 4 4custom6{1;2;3;4;5;-6} = (-6 + 2 + 5 + -6) = -5 Hey! He tripped me!
Set 2, Roll 5 4custom6{1;2;3;4;5;-6} = (5 + 4 + 2 + 1) = 12 Makes rude noises as he passes Robert and the finish line.

Thanks, Avri! I think I'm more confused about the dice rolls but have finally worked it out. (I also might still be a little hazy from my brother's wedding this weekend whistle)

Bart gave us a fancy custom dice to calculate the score of this event which automatically counted sixes as -6. We can use the event specific custom dice, or just roll plain old d6 and do the math ourselves - whichever you prefer.

Congrats on your brother's wedding!

Well, unlike Avri, I didn't hire Lance Armstrong's "training" coach, so I'll do the best I can on bananas and water alone:

Set 1, Roll 1: 4custom6{1;2;3;4;5;-6} = (-6 + -6 + 2 + -6) = -16
Set 1, Roll 2: 4custom6{1;2;3;4;5;-6} = (3 + 2 + -6 + -6) = -7
Set 1, Roll 3: 4custom6{1;2;3;4;5;-6} = (2 + 1 + 2 + -6) = -1
Set 1, Roll 4: 4custom6{1;2;3;4;5;-6} = (-6 + 2 + 1 + -6) = -9
Set 1, Roll 5: 4custom6{1;2;3;4;5;-6} = (3 + 1 + 3 + -6) = 1
Set 1, Roll 6: 4custom6{1;2;3;4;5;-6} = (3 + -6 + 1 + 2) = 0

Set 2, Roll 7: 4custom6{1;2;3;4;5;-6} = (3 + 4 + 4 + 1) = 12

Crap. I knew I shouldn't have hired Gola as my coach...

Run-up: Start with five dice. After each throw you must freeze at least one die. Try to freeze dice with low values. If the total of the frozen dice exceeds 8, your attempt is invalid. Stop throwing with a total of 8 or less on all frozen dice, you then jump.

Jump: Pick up your frozen dice and throw them all. Freeze at least one die and rethrow the remainder until you freeze all dice. Try to freeze dice of high values.

Scoring: Total the value of all frozen dice used in your jump.

Sorry guys, I can't seem to figure out how to roll the dice for this one. If I roll five d6, I only see the total, and not the individual dice.

I guess it's the equivalent of my showing up for the event and forgetting how to run...

Deep breath, deep breath, deep breath... Here we go!

First run attempt:
1d6 + 1d6 + 1d6 + 1d6 + 1d6 = (3) + (6) + (3) + (5) + (5) = 22: 3 6 3 5 5
I'll freeze a 3, for a current total of 3.

1d6 + 1d6 + 1d6 + 1d6 = (3) + (5) + (1) + (3) = 12: 3 5 1 3
I'll freeze the 1, for a current total of 4.

1d6 + 1d6 + 1d6 = (3) + (6) + (1) = 10: 3 6 1
I'll freeze the 1, for a current total of 5.

1d6 + 1d6 = (3) + (1) = 4: 3 1
I'll freeze the 1' for a current total of 6.
Almost there!

1d6 = (3) = 3
Aaaargh! Total of 9.

Second run attempt:
1d6 + 1d6 + 1d6 + 1d6 + 1d6 = (1) + (1) + (3) + (1) + (4) = 10: 1 1 3 1 4
Pretty good start! I'll freeze the three 1s, for a current total of 3.

1d6 + 1d6 = (1) + (6) = 7: 1 6
I'll freeze the 1, for a current total of 4.
Now unless I trip at the last second...

1d6 = (4) = 4
Current total of 8! Phew.

AIRBORNE!
First throw:
1d6 + 1d6 + 1d6 + 1d6 + 1d6 = (5) + (6) + (1) + (1) + (6) = 19: 5 6 1 1 6
I'll freeze the 5 and two 6s, for a current total of 17.

Second throw:
1d6 + 1d6 = (2) + (5) = 7: 2 5
I'll freeze the 5, for a current total of 22.

And now the landing -- last throw!
1d6 = (6) = 6
