I'm curious about giving this a shot, but printing up 1889 and convincing some friends to play probably isn't going to happen.

Please let me know if anyone knows of an 18xx group around Portland that wouldn't mind introducing a new player.

You might reach out to Dave Blanchard on the 18xx mailing list. He's in the Portland area and asides from being a fine chap and running the annual Portland 18xx convention, likely knows of groups in the area.
