Yes, interesting. But no more insidious than some of the current and past approaches to enhancing human performance being researched by DARPA and presumably similar agencies elsewhere. Now the focus is not just on chemicals, but implantable electronic components that would interact directly with the nervous system/brain. The ability to do this sort of stuff is closer than you might imagine. Of course, the ethical clearances to actually implement these technologies are still pending...

That was one of the accusations when a US plane bombed and killed four Canadian soldiers in a "friendly fire" incident in Afghanistan. The implication was the pilot was too jittery to make an accurate target threat assessment.

My memory from reading one book is that the use of amphetimines amongst German tank crews was so common that other troops nick named it "tank chocolate".
