A Shadow has entered a creature's lair on its way towards a stronghold.

An 2-Avatar band enters the lair so the creature immediately manifests and attacks.

The creature randomly selects an Avatar target and the dice rolls are resolved.

Next phase, the 2-Avatar band attacks the Shadow, causing it to manifest.

Does a 3-way melee now take place, i.e. -

Avatars select the Shadow as a target and also which Avatar will fight.
The creature randomly selects a target from among the 2 Avatars and Shadow.
The Shadow likewise selects one of 3 potential targets. .. ?

Do all dice rolls take place and resolve at the same time?

Yes, a 3-way combat occurs. But...

1. The avatars select the Shadow to attack, but the Shadow still randomly targets an avatar from the band to engage. The avatars cannot choose which avatar will engage the Shadow.

2. Yes: the creature randomly selects its target from among the avatars and the Shadow. Since the Shadow has manifested a physical form, it has become a viable target for the creature.

3. You have a choice here: you could play it where the Shadow will only target creatures that attacked it (e.g., if only the avatars attacked the Shadow, only the avatars are viable targets. Once the creature attacks the Shadow, it too will be viable target for the Shadow), or you may play it that the Shadow will attack at random any of the potential targets engaged in the general melee. Pick the option that best fits the story that you would like to tell.

I hope that helps. I'm sorry I was so slow and responding: I've been busy at Gen Con these last several days.

Thanks as ever, Jim.

I assumed you might be kind of busy...
