1. The rules do not seem to indicate who should go first. Is there a preferred method of choosing or is random OK?
2. There is a ship in each fleet that does not have a faction, does this mean it beats any faction? And what if a player places a ship next to it?
3. I assume if a ship is placed with the same faction as another, then neither wins, but what if a ship is placed with a losing faction? For instance, a green is placed next to a red and would loses the fight, does the placed ship become the other ships color? Do the attack icons mean anything in this case, for instance if the placed ship can attack diagonally but the defending ship can only attack orthogonally?

Thanks
Kevin F.

1) You choose randomly.

2) Ships without factions may attack any ship, but they are also prone to attacks from any ships. They are basically a wild trump, but they are balanced out by also being weak to any other ship.

3) No, only attacking ships can claim another ship.

If you have the collectors edition there was an included die. Perfect for determining starting player!

in the video on the KS page they mention "the last person to be on a boat or ship goes first", that or just use a random app etc
