Hey there,

Do you come across monsters when back tracking through the mansion or if you hang out to long in a particular room will monsters find you?

During certain monster checks, the app will tell you to move monsters towards the closest investigators. Basically, you're never safe.

No. The app has no way of tracking your location. So backtracking or lingering is not an issue outside of scenarios that include turn sensitive events. IE puttering about while a cult is summoning something. :-)

It can get a good idea of where you might be though. I've noticed that mythos events often target investigators in rooms that have been recently explored..

It's worth adding, since I presume this question is a pre-purchase inquiry, that monsters will spawn all over the mansion after you've uncovered a few rooms. Sometimes they'll spawn in the room you're in, sometimes they'll come out of doors leading into unexplored regions of the house, and sometimes they'll spawn in rooms you haven't been in for awhile.

However, after they spawn, the app will have them gradually track the investigators down. In the first game, I was rarely 10+ spaces away from our starting space, so it only takes a turn or two for a monster to get within range, loosely speaking.

Also, as implied in a comment above, things *are* happening while you're investigating, acting like an invisible set of timers you're racing to outpace. If you just sit in a room for several turns doing nothing, things will progress in parts of the mansion you haven't uncovered, goals can change, or you can even outright lose.
