Sadly, another mediocre Cwali Rule Book, just as with Sun, Sea, and Sand. In their desire to keep it short and simple, they forget to describe issues in detail and provide good examples. A key area of the game is to increase the strength of your worker to you can access the 3- and 4-strength buildings. But the rules are quite vague! So as regards just the base game (no expansions!)...

First, Vacations. Can a "vacation" be used to increase the strength of a worker? All the rules say is:

"To take vacation, you move your workers to the first month in the future where you already have one or more workers. (To gather workers, available in the future month.)"

Which then begs the question, why do it? I was assuming this meant that you could combine the vacating worker with the worker/stack of workers already in that future month to increase the strength of the worker? Is this allowable with vacations? And must the increase be same-sex or can mixed sex vacation combination be allowed?

Second, Women & the Weight Room. The Weight Room appears to be one clear area to increase your worker's strength. But you only have 2 women. The rule for the Weight Room says:

"One of the workers who spends time for this tile, moves 1 month extra to gain 1 strength. Place one of your pawns from your Foreman board under this worker. (A matching male/female pawn, if possible.) If you have no pawns remaining, you don't move the extra month."

So if all you have is a man on your Foreman board, is it permissible to create a higher strength mixed-sex worker? If the original pawn is female, does the now stronger worker remain female? And can a mixed-sex "woman" be used to "Get a new worker"?

Hi

First the basics:
If it is your turn, meaning you have a worker next to »Now«, you can take this worker AND all other workers in this month combining their strength to do an action.

E. g. you have a worker with strength 1 and a worker with strength 2 in the current month you can take an action with the strength 3 in a later month. The worker combine their strength for that action, but stay separate workers.

Vacation:
This just means you place a worker in a later month (for you can mostly not do anything meanful with it) to combine the strength with another of your workers when that month is »Now« (like described above).

Women and Weight Room
As stated in the rules you can create a mixed-sex worker. (The rules says, if possible take the same sex, meaning if not possible take the other.) This worker stays a woman and could theoretically can get used to »Get another worker«. But for you only have two new worker to get (one male and one female), there is now worker left, when you do a mixed sex worker with a female.

As I see it, the rules you need for playing are in the rule booklet, but not all the questions coming to your mind before playing. One could argue if there have to be questions answered in the rules which does not come up in the real game.

Regards

Christof
