I work in Cambridge and my company has an internal bulletin board where people occasionally put up details of rooms that they are looking to rent out or flat-share. There's nothing currently posted but I'll keep my eyes open for you over the next week or two.

Thank you both,

but just to be clear. This isn't an emergency situation.
There are a number of nice shared places within my budget on typical housing websites.

It's just that given the choice, who of us wouldn't want to live with people to play games with. This is what my request is about. It would just be really nice to find a bunch of people who share this hobby, not just for the games but also for the general mindset. I've rarely met a gamer I didn't get along with.

Hi Florian...

You could post your request to some of the games groups in or around Cambridge? You can always sign up for some of them at the same time....

Mailing list: gamesincambridge@yahoogroups.com (older, slightly more established readership - theoretically this would be the catch-all destination but I suspect other post-doc types are more likely on the group pages)

https://www.facebook.com/GradPadGames (first Saturday of each month, 10am-8pm, bias toward Eurogames)

https://www.facebook.com/heffersgifts (roughly fortnightly Saturdays 7pm-2am, bias toward immersive games)

https://www.meetup.com/The-20s-Hot-Spot/ (not specifically a games group but have a weekly games pub night on Thursdays)

https://www.facebook.com/groups/trumpington.games/ (monthly group, currently last Thursday of the month but revisiting that)

In case you haven't come across it, there's also a local accommodation classified page: http://www.brettward.co.uk/canb/

Cambridge and the surrounding landscape are very flat so many people commute by cycle - it may be that if you're willing to take to a bike you don't need to worry about public transport.

I used to work on the same site as Biochemistry until a couple of years ago so if you want some local knowledge feel free to PM me any questions.

Cheers,
Paul

Oh, and my German accent isn't half as bad as the one you're hearing in your head right now reading these lines...

I was hearing it in an English accent. Actually I think I was hearing it in my own voice.

Good luck with finding some boardgaming housemates and with your new job
