Like the subject says - I'm wondering, why GW decided to stop the production and selling of Mordheim. I've been trying to find any information about reason behind that move - in vain. If anyone of you has some info, or even guess or rumour - please share. Thanks in advance!

Mordheim is from an era when GW's model was that they had their two main core games: Warhammer and Warhammer 40K, and they had their "specialist" game. The specialist game was a stand alone game that was produced for only a year or so, and then they moved on to the next one to drum up excitement. Specialist games included Space Hulk, Epic, Blood Bowl, Necromunda, Mordheim, Inquisitor, and many others. Some would see reprints, others would not.

So Mordheim was just part of the specialist line, produced for a short time as planned.

If you find a copy of the rules, it's not too hard to find minis and terrain to proxy together a game of Mordheim.

Osprey has a current Mordheim-ish game called Frostgrave that's worth looking into. It's already been expanded with more stuff on the way.

I'm aware of facts, that you posted. But i'm wondering - why GW has chosen such publishing policy? And - why they abandoned games, that where very popular - and already produced?

I can only assume that the reason it was abandoned was that it didn't sell enough. Many games have a very vocal fan base that disguises the fact that there aren't actually that many of them.

Now that GW have re-instated their Specialist Games there's a chance it might see the light of day again in some shape or form. I'm pretty sure there're plans on bringing out Necromunda again so bringing back Mordheim could also be on the cards? Having said that, the fact that they nuked the Old World perhaps means if it did come back, it wouldn't quite look the same.

Tonight we dine in Mordheim!

Contrary to what you might think, the game of Mordheim is still very much alive in the hobby community.

The games designer Tuomas Pirinen is active on social media channels, especially on Facebook, and the game has an international cult following despite the original material being out of print.

Original rulebooks are available on the secondary market. Enthusiast and associative designers have continued to ensure that original material plus FAQ's remain available alongside newer fan written material, in addition to material worked on by some scribes who had their work published while GW was still supporting the game.

There is a thriving community of hobbyists who interact on a daily basis on this well established Mordheim forum.

Collecting the original warband's miniatures are becoming a real treasure hunt. Most Mordheimers supplement our collections by collecting Warhammer miniatures released across the last 30 years, in addition to whatever other miniatures are preferred for personal taste when collecting and painting a new warband.

Regards,

Stu

I've recently come across a company called 4Ground whose fantasy buildings would be bloody marvellous for Mordheim:

One advantage of being out of print is that you can use any minis you want.
