Rule changes for tonight's game:-

For a forum game, I'd like to be able to retrieve a random post from a thread. The source thread itself is sporadically updated, so the upper value is not fixed.

Unless there a specific mechanism for this, I presume that it's going to be something like a die roll to return 1 -> [number of posts in a thread at the time the roll is made]. Is this possible?

Thanks.

In memorium. Bob Hoover died 25 Oct 2016 at 94. In WWII he was shot down in a Spitfire and stole an FW-190 to escape. He spent decades at air shows flying Ole Yeller, shown

I'm not sure what you mean by retrieve.

You can use the Geek Randomizer, see Geek Randomizer Guide, to roll a 1Dn.

In the forums, I believe there are 25 posts per page. In a GL, you should be able to add the previous and additional posts to the ones showing. None of this will tell you how many unique users have posted if that's an issue.

So, it would be pretty easy to roll a 1Dn, go to that post, and quote it.
