Hi Everyone

Apologies in advance if this has been discussed before, but I recently started using the new hive deck setup (adding drone cards) taken from the Predator game, and the game seems far to easy now.

We played three games (movies 2, 3 & 4) and breezed through them with hardly any strikes on either of us. All games were played with 3 players.

When I first got this, the game seemed much harder and though we very occasionally won, it was always by the skin of our teeth and with a real sense of accomplishment.

I know that the easy solution to this is to go back to the old setup, and I probably will, but I just wanted to get a few thoughts and if others have felt the same way.

Cheers

Shadi

I find this odd to hear, because more drones make it easier and you had always more drones in the old setup, plus you dont get preparation turns in the predator setup.
I played the aliens movie twice last sunday with the predator setup and we lost hard.
Other thoughts?

I'd agree with this. There are some drones which do make things harder, depending on the scenario (event and facehugger come to mind) but in general the more drones the easier things are. We mostly play two-player and never add any drones as they make the game too easy. With more players it's likely different, but I'd still expect more drones to give an easier game.

@ Shadi:
Do you play with the two preparation rounds (like in alien) or without (like in predator)?

In Alien, preparation rounds are only listed under the alternate rules to make the game easier. The standard rules do not include preparation rounds.

We don't play with any preparation rounds.

From what I can see, the number of drone cards is identical in the two methods.

Old system drone cards = number of players, in each hive phase (objective). So in a three player game, thats 9 drone cards total.

In 3 player Predator system:
Phase 1: 2 Drone cards,
Phase 2: 3 Drone Cards
Phase 3: 4 Drone Cards

Total = 9 cards

Its just in the new system, more drones in the final objective. (therefore weakening the deck?)

Hi everyone,

The updated Drone/Youngblood chart is intended to make the game a little harder for 1-2 players and a little easier for 4-5 players.

It should be about the same difficulty for 3 players since it's the same total number of drones (9). (Although the new chart is probably a drop easier because getting an extra Drone near the end of the game is often more impactful than one at the beginning of the game).

Thank you,
Danny

The difficulty of this game is very easily adjustable. If you find it too easy, just use fewer drones. In a two player game, we actually start with one more Grunt and two Specialists per player to make the game more challenging.

Maybe you're also just getting better at the game?

Yep, thats exactly it!

Thank you all. I think I will try reducing the number of drone cards and see how that goes.

Meanwhile, I have pre-ordered the expansion for this and cant wait for that to arrive.

Regards

Shadi
