Black is our Coda, all black cities, Jakarta, and as of August - St Petersburg, Paris and Madrid (uh oh) have been Faded.

Tehran (our ground zero), Moscow and now Osaka have fallen. The rest of the map is littered with 2s and 3s.

We had two tries in January, March, May, July, August but we did win every month. We won on the first try in other months. So that's 8-5. Really it was a bad string during the 1st August attempt that broke our L, W, W streak.

We have 4 research stations (Algiers, Delhi, Miami and Manilla) and 6 military bases (Istanbul, Shanghai, Sao Paolo, Khartoum, Chicago and Manilla)

We've completed the searches for both the virologist and immunoligist already.

I actually thought our map was looking pretty good through July, But 12 outbreaks in August and the Faded sliding into Europe has me worried.

Rules mistakes: We have one major mistake we've been dealing with and a few minor ones. It took us a few months to realize infecting the board is step 4 of set-up, so that makes the game harder because you're choosing roles and starting city. The very first month after Accelerated Incubation becamme a thing, we forgot about it for half the game, but we had very few black cards in hand and even less black cards in the infection deck and we are 99% sure it would have had no effect. But the biggie was we put relationships on our initial characters when we first opened February. As far as we can tell, this made February easier (but that was also the month we had our luckiest draw) BUT we think it is hurting us as the game goes on - The Quarantine Specialist and Operations Expert became mandatory mid-game and didn't have the best relationships.

Watching the Dice Tower videos and reading other sessions reports, I'm seeing other seemingly more egregious rules mistakes (in either direction) but seemingly "healthier" maps.

So - how we doin' ?

Hmm. It's actually quite hard to comment without giving spoilers!

Well I'm more looking for how we're doing in comparison to other players at this point than I am looking for how prepared we are for what to come?

What do you think you ought to have achieved by now, and what do you think you should have concentrated your energies on preventing?

How you answer that question will affect your assessment of how well you're doing.

As someone who's finished Season One, I know what the correct priorities are. But I shouldn't comment on that.

Instead, I will simply take your account and (from a mixture of faulty memory and reliable records) say how we were doing in each of the respects that you list:

• Black C0dA
• About 15 Faded cities
• No collapsing or fallen cities, but plenty of rioting ones
• 11 games
• 5 months won first time, 3 won second time, no months lost
• 3 research stations
• 6 military bases
• 2 completed searches
• No rules errors

We just failed the first try of July.

All of blue and half of black is faded (18) (stupid outbreaks in June)
A lot of rioting cities
6 permanent military bases
2 research stations (2 lost already, including Atlanta)
1 complete search, but we do not get to keep her, right?
No characters dead, and only 1 scar

Our rules error was that we just realized last month that we all have to start at the same research station.

I'll compare as best I can without the map in front of me. Through August:

-Red Coda
-All Red cities are faded, LA and Karachi have faded as well
-Hong Kong has fallen, all other red are rioting, but other than that we are pretty solid (One or two other rioting, no collapsing)
-3 research stations, none lost
-5 permanent military bases
-10 games
-6 months won first time, 1 second time (July), 1 lost (June)
-Both searches completed thus far (And Ryan, you do hold on to the card unless the rules stated otherwise. It has something on it that you will presumably need eventually. Unless you're talking about the objective, which is just a one time objective).
-No dead characters, one scar (Medic)
-No rules oversights...that I know of...

Not sure if that includes mine, in which case you probably already have an image of our state, but if not (having reached exactly the same point of completing August):

• Black C0dA
• 17 Faded cities - all 12 Black, plus three Red and two Blue.
• Three permanent roadblocks surrounding Hong Kong to try and reduce further spread.
• No fallen cities, only Moscow (our Ground Zero) Collapsing, plenty rioting.
• 9 games
• 7 months won first time, 1 won second time (July), no months lost
• 2 research stations (Atlanta, Cairo)
• 5 military bases (missing one in North America)
• 2 completed searches
• No rules errors (AFAIK!)
• No characters lost, one character (the Medic) scarred once.
• 7 positive mutations (2*level 2, 1*level 3).

This is in a two player game (using only 2 characters each month) so arguably a little easier than many. Sounds like most people are in a similar sort of state at this point though!

I just finished October, but I'll avoid spoilers. I'll try to backup my memory to about the end of August:

* Black C0dA
* 16ish faded cities; all Black, 3 blue, one yellow
* Permanent roadblocks to prevent further spread into Africa
* Permanent roadblocks to strongly encourage it to stay out of Asia (not 100% blocked off but we have a military base on the border and keep quarantine pressure up on it)
* Additional permanent roadblocks around our two level 5 cities (non-Coda; Shanghai and Beijing just decided to chain outbreak repeatedly in one game in a series of bad luck before we could get to them to fix it)
* 3 research stations: one in Seoul, one in Riyadh, Atlanta
* 7 permanent military bases, 1 in each region and an extra in Europe because of the win bonus that gave you an extra
* 10 games (going by memory, don't have my log here) including winning 4 straight, then doing a loss/win, then losing 4 in a row. Mostly we just failed to realize the power of roadblocks early enough to really stop Coda from spreading as far and fast as it did, and were so used to "vanilla" pandemic strategies that just weren't working for us.
* LOTS of level 2-3 cities. 2 Level 5s as previously mentioned.
* We played a game in February with relationships, then realized the mistake and took them off for subsequent games. There's something to be said for not winning your first 4 games straight, as funding level 0 has the double effect of not having the powerful special abilities and also making epidemics come faster.
* 2 completed searches
* No characters lost. A couple scars, including 2 on the Researcher!
* 3 positive mutations (2 blue, 1 yellow). We didn't have a lot of luck eradicating diseases, so we spent upgrades on military bases and roadblocks. Earlier upgrades were for research stations and character upgrades.
