BGG is such a wonderful resource, with lots of people posting DIY tables that are gorgeous, tricked out, and functional. As a grad student, my budget is a bit lower than most, though. As is my gaming space. My woodworking skills are next to none (though Shenomad is a trained carpenter).

This morning I was woken up at 4-ish by ideas of how to build my own solo gaming table in the "den" (extra bedroom where the kids don't go). Here's my journey, I hope it helps some of you.

Step One: Clear Space
I was able to slide my desk over 60 cm toward the door, which can still open. Also, some drawers, the 'net router, and a speaker moved as well:

Step Two: Grab Camping Table from storage closet
Not too difficult, as it folds up and has a handle:

Step Three: Unfold Table
Still no problems encountered:

Step Four: Prepare Leg Extensions
This was the first mechanically challenging step in the process. But I persevered and got it done:

Step Five: Unfold Legs
More challenges, not the least of which holding the camera and getting the shot:

Step Six:Inserting Leg Extensions
Easier than I had anticipated, but then I'm a father of two:

Step Seven: Lock Table Sections
To my surprise, no fingers were cut:

Step Eight: Position Table
This was the most difficult phase. Flipping the table to upright in a tight space without waking my family or disemboweling myself took all of my yogic skills (and a soft sofa against which I bumped twice):

As you can see I was able to put out a supply of games with which to get started. A mere 40 minutes later, and my creation looked like this:

In the end, I was able to complete the project for under twenty dollars. The table cost 18-something, and I ate a banana during construction. But as a tangent to the project I also cleaned up the balcony where the table (and the games) had been stored. So there may be some kickbacks from my wife, further reducing the overall cost.

I really hadn't thought I could do it, but I did. So my message to you my fellow DIYers is: don't give up. With the right materials and a (very) little bit of common sense, you can do it too!

The Golden Camel UberBadge is a mystery. Nobody knows where it came from or how it got there.

Any recommendations for those of us DIYers without access to a banana during assembly?

At 4 in the morning, I hope he passed the stealth check!

Great post. The awesome ones are, well, awesome, but it just takes a surface!
My "game room" is a room with a table and four chairs that isn't used for anything else.

There is clearly too much space in America.

Yep ... when gaming in my flat I have to undress my dinning table, move it, move furnitures, move things to my bedroom ...

Why aren't you PLAYING a game?

Typical. These always look so easy in pictures. I'm sure you skipped some steps. I didn't even *see* this "banana" you mentioned.

If the pictures are any indication, you forgot to mention you did all this without wearing your glasses.
