Hey folks, posting for my flat mate. He's seen me and the other guys batteling it out and wants to get in on the fun himself.

He's interested mainly in Dominion and is wondering what the best 3 or maybe 4 depending on budget retail ships he can get to have a viable starting fleet. If that its possible at all.

He will be competing in mostly casual games with us who play fed pure, romulan pure and borg pure but we are also going to some OP events soon too.

Hes looked around and likes the look of the Jem'Hadar ships as they have good looking synergy which is how he is wanting to play.

Especially the 2nd Division Cruiser - Jem'Hadar Battle Cruiser (Cost 34) 3rd Wing Attack Ship - Jem'Hadar Attack Ship (Cost 22) 4th Division Battleship - Jem'Hadar Battleship (Cost 36)

are these all retail? and are they any good?

Basically TLDR, what are the best 3-4 Dominon retail expansions for jumping into a game and kicking ass with a fleet.

I did quite well with this list using mostly Jem'Hadar (with a Cardassian Attack Fighter Squadron):

4th Division Battleship [36]
- Gul Dukat 8 (Captain) [5]
- Aft Weapons Array [4]
- Amat'Igan [3]
Ship Total: 48 SP

1st Wave Attack Fighters [24]
- Flanking Attack [3]
- Support Ship [4]
- Escort [4]
Ship Total: 35 SP

Dominion Starship (Jem'Hadar Battle Cruiser) [32]
- Weyoun 7 (Captain) [5]
- - Omet'Iklan [4]
- - Remata'Klan [3]

Fleet Total: 130 SP

Think I've purchased the Battleship, the Battecruiser, 5th Wing Attack Fighter, Reklar & 1st Wave Attack Fighter to do the above...

Basic theory is this - Cruiser stays within 1 of the Fighter Squadron & within 2 of the Battleship. When it gets in range of the opposing fleet, use the Cruisers action to activate Corak (gets up to CS 10), use the Battleships ability to give the Cruiser an extra action (battlestations) then use Remata'Klan to get an extra 2 CS & 2 Attack dice. Use the 1st Wave Flanking Attack to add its dice to the Cruisers attack - you now have a CS 12, 12 dice attack (13 at range 1) with Battlestations. It hurts a lot if you can pull off an alpha strike with it.

The Dominion ships are fantastic, fair play...

You could amend the list to make it a bit more effective I've no doubt, but that's what I came up with, with what I had at the time.

Those should be your first Dominion purchases.
The Battleship isnt terrible, but it moves like a wounded whale and only has a 90° arc. In 2 years of organized play, I've never seen a fleet with a Battleship win the event.

I'd have to agree on the Koronak - I'll be purchasing on day one when the re-release hits.

I did win the Wrath of Khan OP with the list above, so it is possible with the battleship, also giving it the Aft Weapons Array really does help.

I don't have the Koronak myself yet, but Dukat 7 will be in every Dominion build I have from that point on!

Steven's list is solid and pretty much what I would have recommended.

Koronak nets you Dominions best captain, a good elite talent, and best crew (Boheeka). Do not pass up a chance at grabbing one of these.

As has been said:

Koranak - best dominion captain,high firepower 180 arc but a bit fragile. Boheeka is awesome.
Reklar - awesome admiral for messing with people. Aft phaser array is expensive version of Aldara's, but can be useful on JH ships (90 arc ships)
2nd division cruiser - solid manuverable ship. Handles like a vorcha. High skill Weyoun captain. Remataklan pairs well with Koranaks ship ability if you build for it.
1st wave fighters - flanking attack is great fun, almost worth buying two for. Galor class phaser banks is helpful if not used to range 1-2 fighters.

We had a guy run the Battleship locally quite a bit, but only with OEP and a cheap Admiral Forest/Capt Dukat/Boheeka/Amatigan.

She's a tank, but is pretty scary with those 1 hard turns by Forest.

Yeah when the fleet captains came out the first thing I did was win with a two-battleship fleet, but it needs something for mobility, and unfortunately everything is either out-of-faction or an expired resource. The closest the Dominion has is 360 weapons, which let the Battleship's big primary weapon go to waste and aren't even included with any Jem'Hadar ships.

Unfortunately, the 3rd wing attack ship is not retail; the 5th wing patrol ship is the retail bugship (not counting the Federation's Robinson). The 3rd wing is widely available though, so it might be possible to get it cheaply on ebay. It's decent; the ship ability is better and Damar is kinda nifty, but I wouldn't necessarily go out of my way for it.

(I'm reluctant to join the chorus of people telling him he should go Cardassian instead, but they're certainly more accessible and my personal favorites. If he wants to go Jem'Hadar that's cool, it's totally feasible, but the one thing I'd add is that the Jem'Hadar's synergy is not as good as it looks. The Battleship's free action is great, but apart from that, Ometiklan, and the Phased Polaron Beam, most of the J'H-only stuff is pretty mediocre anyways.)

Yeah, the Jem ships do a decent job at supporting eachother, but jot other Dominion ships - which I think kills their utility in a mixed Dominion fleet. I did have a good time with a flag shipped Bug and a 2nd Div Cruiser back in the day.
