Hi all,

I need to find some easy yet challenging and fun games to play with relative novices on Sunday.

In my experience, I find everyone has different tastes which makes it difficult.

I had posted a while back on almost the same topic, but now it will be about the 2nd time I see these ladies so I want them to have a good time playing games.

Of the light to moderate games a lot of people like:

1. Ticket to Ride USA
2. Splendor
3. Carcassone
4. 6 Nimmt
5. Las Vegas
6. Pictomania

Amazingly one lady has played Stone Age, so I may play that one too.
They are here only for 4 hours though.

Any suggestions? I got lots of the most common games so suggest away.

Thx

There's no simple explanation for anything important any of us do, and yeah the human tragedy consists of the necessity of living with the consequences, under pressure, under pressure. -Courage (For Hugh Maclennan): The Tragically Hip

Since they are newbies I might try something light (as you suggested). Since they are ladies, I might also try something social like: BANG! The Dice Game

The Resistance: Avalon

Codenames

Deception: Murder in Hong Kong

Unusual Suspects

Hope this helps.

Any light game should do. Play the ones you like best and let your enthusiasm draw them in.

Don't think any of these have been mentioned.

Co-ops: Pandemic, Hanabi
Fillers: No Thanks!, Love Letter, Sushi Go

btw, Deception Murder in HK is one of my group's favorite!

Thanks for all the suggestion so far. We have 5 people but one is coming late so 4 for the 1st 2 hours.

Deception Murder in HK intrigues me but it is better with more players. I only read the review but not played it.

I don't have Colt Express or Dixit.

Machi Koro I heard was imbalanced unless I play with the variant?

Camel up with a good idea. I've played it and also have the expansion. Is it better with the expansion?

No Thanks is a fast filler, I like it.

Sushi GO played once really simple game maybe ok.

I don't really like social deduction games though. Everyone has different tastes so I hope I can get people to play the games they like though they don't know of many. That puts the pressure on me.

My party was so so. They all liked Las Vegas but some disliked 6 Nimmt. Some people are not analytical and quit playing or go through the motions if they are losing. We talked half the time.

My take is that with new players the base game of Machi Koro will be fine. Probably just right.

The imbalanced comments come from "gamers" that approach the game very differently than a bunch of noobs. My example...My daughter, 14 at the time, loves the game, and set it up in the open gaming area at a convention. She explicitly removed the expansion cards, so she could play and introduce people to the base game. Along comes "alpha gamer" number one, who sits down with my daughter and a new player. Alpha proceeds to buy the same card each time it is his turn, and wins quickly. He then leaves the table announcing "That is why you only play that game with the expansion".

So unless Alpha shows up at your game night, the base game will work fine. That said, the expansions are pretty cool, but can really add to play time. The expansions have led to some very close and fun games with my family that tends to like light games similar to those on your list.

Ooh, so I'll add in Kingdom Builder. That is another of our favorites.
