HI guys.

Quick question. With what can you protect your board game pieces. Referring to the actual tiles of the game. In my first edition of Mansions of madness I used contact paper to protect the room tiles. But it came with a price in some instances where if the light falls on them at a certain angle it would glare, making it a bit hard to see the art on it.

Does anyone have any other method or material that could be used to protect the tiles but with more of an anti-gloss finish?

Thanks

You can pick up a Matte Varnish spray (non-glossy) and give each side a quick, light coat. That should put an extra thin protective layer on the cardboard. I haven't had to with this game, but with other cardboard tokens I've painted a thin layer of watered down adhesive around the edges to keep them from flaying.

All optional, of course and requires some patience.

One thing I've started doing with most FFG products is to take a paint marker on the edges of the tiles and many of the tokens.

Just use the oil-based Sharpie paint markers around the edges. Protects them from flaying, makes them look a little better, and even alters the feel and sound a bit. I've actually had people think they were wood tokens just because of this.

I usually use black for tiles and most tokens, but I've also done tokens to match their graphics, like red for health and blue for sanity.

I haven't hit mine with the matte varnish yet, but I'm thinking about it. A combination of painted edges and varnish should protect them from spills and normal wear and tear.

I was confused by that video. So the sprays worked, but they also didn't work?
