Could this variant work?

On the selling phase, rather than going in turn order (which gives 1st player a disadvantage), have everyone put the stocks they want to sell face down in front of them.

After every has decided, everyone flips their card to reveal their choices.
After the choices are revealed, each player gets 1 card they can add or remove to their selling stocks.
Also they can add more than the 1 if they pay $1,000 each for additional cards they want to add/remove

Maybe this can even out the playing field for the 1st player.

We thought of doing this. Would reduce the importance of turn order, quite a bit (which we think may be a good thing). Luckily the game is quick enough so we haven't want to house rule anything yet.

I think this would also reduce one of the only bluffing aspects of this game. You'd just sell your shares based on what you KNOW and maybe probabilities of what your other stocks are doing.

I don't like the excessive left-right turn binding aspect of it, but it's probably better this way.

Agreed, going first during the stock sale phase is a huge disadvantage with experienced players.

It would also remove most of the fun from the game, which is (as alenen pointed out) the bluffing aspect.
Going first does not have to be a disadvantage. It can also mean you have an opportunity to influence (mislead?) more players than anyone else. Removing that part from the game turns stockpile into a game of pure luck about which information you are being dealt.

Interesting. It's one of my favorite aspects of the game - wondering why someone sold something! Find it so much fun!!!

Regardless, I think it could work.
