What to pick next?

Roads to Moscow:
Have Aircraft and HQ. Love those aircraft counters.
Better combat system? (Two CRT)
More solitaire friendly with chit pull?

Operation Dauntless.
Ton of extra stuff - Player Aids - Handbooks. Love such stuff to read in bed.
Maybe it is more wargame running behind the scene than showing in the walkthrough video?

And finally. Which game have:
Most scenarios with playing time less than 8 hours
Less setup time. Long fiddly setup is a killer for me.

It's hard to go wrong with either game. They are both good. Operation Dauntless will take you more time to learn, so if you want to get into the game play quickly you should choose Roads to Moscow.

I personally have spent more time with Operation Dauntless because I really like the way it highlights unit type differences.

Another vote for Roads to Moscow.

Albeit Operation Dauntless is an impressive game too, even just for the reading material alone.

The obvious solution is to get both of them.

Operation Dauntless is a great game that is like a puzzle, in that you are given a bunch of tools, a set of problems and then set free. You will find your self using combined arms, rotating companies out of the front line so that they can recover, building up forces for your attack, using artillery to suppress enemy hexes for combat bonuses, bringing on reinforcements when you think you need them to shore up the defence or provide extra impetus to your attack, Divisional assets including tactical bombers, and tank duels. A ton of reading material and a truck load of scenarios.

It's easy to set up, though some of the scenarios are long especially the campaign ones. The actual game system is quite easy to pick up though the rule book seems long as there are lots of explanations and examples.

I'm about to start playing Roads to Moscow so I'll say get both!

Extreme obvious. Why wasting time to type this?

Hit the "buy" button a a minute ago for RtM. Thanks to recommendations from "pro" guys.

When wife has settled down next month I will go for OP Dauntless.

What kind of marker is placed on top of you as a result? It's something depicting flames, isn't it?

My pledge to buy only games I will soon play is now in danger, thanks to this thread.

Since I returned to wargaming 18 months ago, I've accumulated only four games I haven't yet played. I have had solid, very solid, pseudo-legitimate reasons for not putting those four onto the table before buying another.

Roads to Moscow has been on my wishlist for several months -- along with 13 others -- so I would eventually get to it with the usual a) Buy and b) Play combo.

But all this talk about Roads vs. Dauntless, and the constant drumbeat of praise for the former has had me returning to Roads' BGG page and its folder on Consimworld. My will is weakening by the hour.

I've gone to the GMT page several times, and avoided clicking the buy button only by the usual method of banging my mouse hand with an Oregon Laminations counter clipper.

Thanks everyone. Yeah, thanks.

What Operation Dauntless needs is a couple of in-depth, favorable reviews.

I agree...

1. No videos please.

2. In depth review of Operation Dauntless - yes please. This won't influence me though as I am playing through this now, but am still less than half way through the tutorials. For me this isn't a problem as the game is a gem but I would hate to write up a review without actually playing the full game. Even the tutorials have replayability. I love the depth of this system and the chrome. This is not useless chrome though but actually adds to the depth and colour of the game. It is fantastic for a grand tactical game to get such a nice tactical feel. Very impressive although a lot to remember. This is a game, a simulation and a historical narrative on what happened at Fontenay.

OD is highly recommended in my book.
