I really want to try this game. I've heard mixed things about it with two players, but the same is true for Tigris & Euphrates, which I absolutely adore with two players. If memory serves, they are both criticized at two players in part because the board can be too open and uncompetitive. We solve this by selectively picking starting locations in T&E, and I wonder if we could do the same here (though I believe you start from predetermined locations that are fairly distant from one another).

I have to say I'm shocked that Codenames didn't win. I played Mombasa once and never saw it being played at public meetups, while I have seen Codenames at almost every public meetup since last Essen. Oh well, Mombasa is fun, too.

Mombasa is a very different game.

Codenames is less expensive (so more people are likely to have a copy), shorter (so it is more likely to fit into a game night), easier to set up, and simpler to teach. So it's unsurprising that it sees more play.

I continue to wonder if FCM's price isn't hurting it when coming to awards.
