I am curious, do any of you regulars have a favorite player count for 18XX games? I am finding, of late, I am really enjoying 3-player games for instance.

It all depends on which 18XX game we are playing.

Usually 4 or 5.

Most of my plays are with 3 or 4 player affairs, sometimes just 2.
The highest player count so far for me, was one game of Steam over Holland with 5.

It's just that there's not that many 18xx players around here. I'd love to play some games with 5, 6 or 7.

Thanks. It is more of a general inquiry if any 18XXers have a favorite number to normally play with if they could choose.

That's entirely dependent on the game here.

Love 'em even if a few games get scuttled from time to time.

I agree it depends on the game, but 4 seems to be the sweet spot.

As much as I love 18XX, I haven't found many I enjoy as much with just 2. Some work, but they just don't seem to work quite as well. 3 works fine for some games, but for others it feels like the games were really meant to have more (for example, in 18Mex the cert limit feels far too high with 3).

These are my favorites for 2 players:
1860: Railways on the Isle of Wight
1862: Railway Mania in the Eastern Counties
1893: Cologne

Still haven't been able to try any 18Xx 2-player. I want to, but not yet. Luckily, getting them played around here now is not hard.

I like the ease and speed of three players but the gameplay is richer with at least four. So somewhere between three and four but closr to three.

So basically pi.
