I've really enjoyed my first play through of Islebound, but I found the ship tokens to be quite a distraction from the rest of the game. They are a bit large and anticlimactic! I LOVE Ryan's artistic style but these ships I do not enjoy, at all. I'd love to hear about other ideas people have used or thought about using to replace the ship tokens that come with the game. Thanks!

Dave

The boats in Blood Rage work if you have them, they're even similar colors!

Those ship standees are literally my favorite thing about the entire game - gorgeous artwork, particularly in how each ship is subtly different. I vastly prefer them to the wooden KS blobs. The only downside is that it is pretty easy to pick up and move the wrong one.

I believe Meeple Source was floating around ideas for ship tokens.

I like what you did there, clever.

I think my largest issue with them is the size. I was finding myself constantly moving them so I could see the island and iconography on the board. Perhaps as I play more I won't be so reliant on the iconography and can see past the size.

I did this to replace mine.

Got the from Eagle Games website. Just search for Francis Drake. They're the brown frigates.
I stuck them to some spare clear bases I had lying around to give them extra stability on the game board.

Seems there's more than one thread on this. As I just posted in another thread:

I used the boats from Jamaica

And the colors match exactly (not shown in pic)

Whoever thought the tall stand-ups were a good idea failed the usability test.

Did you paint the top two sails of each ship? They look good!
